General Economic chit chat/updates.

Man, retirement talk. The Big "R" has been looming LARGE in my thoughts the last few months. I know I'm closer than most (all?) here to hanging up the oar for good, but I'm still not quite sure how I'll know when it's "time". Those days where I think maybe in another year or 2 a...

:dat: if you have a lot you’d like to do and the resources to do it, cool. If you’re retiring but have to just kind of sit around being cheap to make it last, meh. There’s something out there for everyone that at least provides opportunity for some interesting experiences, challenges, and life bala...

The thing is, you need to do something to survive. If it’s something that is interesting/fun, even if it’s not a passion project that is a bonus. In an ideal world we could all be Wall E obese and never doing shit but consuming; people value different things but yeah, time is not valuable for the sa...

A lot of companies are reneging the wfh shit … Kind of crazy how we went “fully remote” to hybrid to “you should probably be in the office” My company is legit auditing the amount of times people are coming in the office (the expectation is 50/50 hybrid). lots of VP/SVP/EVP’s are about to get in tr...

I’m in Europe right now… Ireland is pretty decent. But I’m starting to see homeless … London has a lot … saw a couple of drug deals also… and a nice place is 2 millies. I am not sure Europe is better than the us to be honest. It seems like st Pete is still a nice place despite the recent shit show ...

I also actually waxed the car this weekend, looks so good :megusta: It performed quite nicely on track, was really a hoot and plenty quick for what I need. Honestly the Michelins were better than expected. Not a ton of grip but enough to keep up with some heavier hitters. I ran the advanced group a...

Seems I might have more immediate problems to address... also passed today was FL SB 1438 or the "drag show ban" which could be pretty harsh and will be on the governor's desk tomorrow. I have not read the full text yet to know exactly how they are defining "adult live performance&qu...

That's where the rich people shop. Welcome to the swamp. Yeah, it was just a bunch of olds in that place. Great bakery section, but if I were here any longer I'd be finding a cheaper alternative, even if it's more of a drive. I'm kind of stoked to check out a few pawn shops with the kids this morni...

:word: didn’t think it’d be something you’d jump on.. but if you ever find yourself on the wrong end of that chopping block, feel free to reach out if desired. Might be a decent temp solution at least. Yea I think I will take a couple of years off work after getting laid off. I honestly don't "...

You have two options, really. One is a dedicated infant seat that pops on and off of a base. Useful for carrying a sleeping sack of :baby: without having to get them out of their seat. This is about as cheap as those get - https://www.albeebaby.com/graco-snugride-snuglock-35-xt-infant-car-seat-stud...

My expectation in an economic doomsday scenario is to be part of a larger community of reasonable people doing whatever they can to help each other, not hunker in my bunker alone with "No Trespassing" signs and an elaborate series of traps placed like I'm in a Predator movie. Oh this is 1...

Those evil people that would do such things dont give a good god damn about your morality and would likely gladly oblige this deathwish. Why would you not at least attempt to protect your family? You are trying to be a father - you will be a provider & protector. Why not use the best tools avai...

No, they're actually little cylinders full of beans and :tuna: and shit.
I mean, you can stack those up for the people who have ammo to eventually convince you of handing them over.

See what I mean?

So a bunch of tech bros hooked up with venture capital to put an app on your phone that allows overextended people to rent you their unmaintained POS in the hopes that it explodes. Hard no from me on that dawg. The crazy part is that there became an Airbnb model for cars and usually those same supe...

the bread and butter with Turo is let a car run as much as possible before either:

1. it blows up and you mechanically total it through Turo insurance
2. someone totals it for you

It is literally the only thing most Turo hosts wait/pray for, hence the condition of the cars are what they are.

We're getting a cold front this weekend (already in it) here in San Antone. 51/39 H/L today 57/39 tomorrow, 54/37 Monday, with random gusts and random spotty showers. Then 80 highs after that.

Still really enjoying the 86. Nothing much new to report, made it to 1050 miles so I have now gone WOT to redline a couple of times. It's not really anything :impressive: but :notbad: either. I think the free-revving and instantaneous throttle response of this motor are quite enjoyable, power is :t...

Too bad they’d only care once he announces his departure. Because that’s probably when his boss tells their boss they’re losing someone. Too bad. I mean it’s tough you can’t exactly ask for more if the company is downsizing and laying off. But again it’s on them to figure it out, he did bring it up...

Thanks man. I actually brought up to my manager that I know about the salary discrepancy, but also it would have been pretty easy to assume given she has a title one grade level ahead of mine. That was when I got the response of "be glad we have jobs" and she also threw in a "I never...

To be honest in this economy it’s good to line something up before you bring up discussions like that and I’m not about to deep throat a be happy you have a job mentality but the outlook is that 2023 will be kinda shitty. Coogs I feel your pain but if you see your company is doing layoffs especially...
