Re: OT 20: rotisserie roller coaster

I've no interest in traveling anywhere in the US, except maybe Hawaii/PR. My fantasy is to spend summers in France while saving enough money to retire and move there permanently, then spend time traveling around the rest of Europe with somewhere like Marseille as our home base. It'll never happen o...

Re: OT 20: rotisserie roller coaster

Shit, I could occupy an entire lifetime just learning languages and reading old books. I'm a nerd so I would also be down to play video games for a few hours a day. That was fun as hell as a kid. I want to learn some martial arts and fencing too. I want to learn how to weld and paint and make some c...

Re: OT 20: rotisserie roller coaster

The tricky thing is finding affordable places to stay anymore... just like real estate, airBNBs and hotels and such have really jumped in the past few years. We've looked in some less desirable areas (that we find desirable) like ABQ and it looks like 1,500-2k isn't impossible just for a studio apt...

Re: OT 20: rotisserie roller coaster

I mean, it's doable if you want to work forever. We don't, so every dollar spent on luxuries like travel means more time spent working. What do you guys want to do in retirement? My concern is that without a bunch of money to travel, do stuff like track days/other hobbies, retirement would be prett...

Re: Shopping in the worst car market ever...Summer 21 Plac Thread

I usually just rattle off a list of top selling vehicles and tell them to drive a bunch and pick what feels right. But that's during normal times. Right now, it's a disaster finding things to drive. I recommend only buying new and only buying something with stellar residual track record. You're ove...

Re: OT 20: rotisserie roller coaster

Retire earlier is exactly what more money would do for us, other than that we already pretty much live how we want to live... The other change is that at some point another ~$20k a year or so before tax would allow us to actually take vacations. In fantasy land I would like to rent a place somewher...

Re: Car Talk 5: The Juice is Loose!

I don't think that a hatch along the design of the Stinger or TC would add a ton of weight, and I honestly don't think it would lose a whole bunch of rigidity in the process. I think having the hatch, at the price point the GR86 is at, would add practicality and steal sales from GTIs, Velosters, an...

Yep, makes me think about Max's :truk: purchase... there was zero chance of getting a :manuel: , no discounts, had to travel for MSRP, etc. :nope: I like the Whorange one you posted. Yea, it's still stupid expensive for what it is IMO. Fortunately, I don't need another vehicle, so I'm just going to...

Re: OT 20: rotisserie roller coaster

I don’t have a set target in mind.. a job to me is a way to afford my hobbies/lifestyle.. so as long as I can afford to live and throw some money at bodybuilding and record collecting every month and some into retirement accounts I’ll be happy. If I had to put a figure on it, I’d probably be very c...

Re: Car Talk 5: The Juice is Loose!

If I can un-shitbox the C5 interior enough… I could go for something like that. Everything just felt so… intuitive. Right. Easy. Like… “well yes, this is how a proper grand touring sports car should be!” Dude, just wait out the madness and bypass the C5/C6 and get a reasonably modern car in the C7....

Re: Car Talk 5: The Juice is Loose!

So I got some time freed up, went for a run again in the crack of dawn. Unpacked and all that jazz and I got super tired of the mitsu outlander (its god fucking awful to drive) that I decided to fuck it and call to change it. Went to the airport rental on my "lunch break" and they said th...

Re: Dem bicicletas dos, doe.

Can't you program di2 buttons to do whatever you want? I was thinking that if I got it I would make it like flappy paddles on a car. Up on one hand and down on the other, vs going both ways with both hands.

Re: Car Talk 5: The Juice is Loose!

But then the 944 became known for its remarkable handling while also having a hatch. It's also almost a 40 year design. Things have changed a lot. Which should make it easier to get good handling without gigantic solid pillars and a tiny trunk opening, no? But I guess everything needs to keep getti...

Re: Car Talk 5: The Juice is Loose!

They're probably impossible to find, but I wonder how terrible the first gen Mazda6 V6 would be... It came as both a wagon and a hatchback with like 220 hp. IIRC the :manuel: was not geared great, but there was a 6AT that might be better.

Re: Car Talk 5: The Juice is Loose!

Meanwhile my thinking at the moment is that, if I had to buy something soon, I would be looking at an 08+ Rabbit/Golf 2.5+6AT or a 2011+ Scion tC 2.5+6AT. Either one in white with cloth interior. Man, I really liked my 06 tC. The hatch swallowed so much stuff, it was :mindblown: That was a great ca...

Re: Car Talk 5: The Juice is Loose!

I don't understand why hatches went away. They were all the rage in the 80's and made sports cars practical. I haven't met anyone that claims to NOT want one, so there must be another reason why they're not built anymore. I'm going to guess that it has something to do with rigidity. :dat: I would g...

Car Talk 5: The Juice is Loose!

If the BRZ had a god damn hatch like a 944 I would have found a way to keep mine - or rather, probably bought one in 2013 and still be driving it, looking to order a new one soon.

That tiny trunk opening just isn't acceptable.

Exactly. It’s like every time I see a headline that goes “Facebook fined $75 million for privacy violations in XX country” I just laugh because they’re raking in so much more than that from breaking the damn rules. They really need to start fining based off a percentage of revenue. I bet these larg...

They make lightweight aero wheels. :iono:

Even my cheapass set is 1600g and the set I would have bought in hindsight is like 1400, pretty light for wide tubeless disc brake :ramz: from China.

:dat: If you plan to work forever like most people, you might as well max the HSA and treat it like another retirement account that's not to be touched short of an emergency. I didn't know about that until recently so ours has not been funded much. When I started at FCA a few years ago, a benefits ...
