Shopping in the worst car market ever...Summer 21 Plac Thread
I kinda doubt that is true. If it is, I would go buy all of it and sell it online for 2X. I was there two days ago to buy a new router, only noticed because the router I bought was right next to the Sonos stuff. Plenty of Beams, Arcs, 2 packs of Sonos 1's. No subs or other stuff, but still plenty o...

Man... looking at Sora for the Raleigh and the damn STI shifters are like $200-300... :disgust: I will probably pull the trigger anyway because :aintcare: I rode last night and this AM on my new tubeless setup on the Ribble (Conti GP5000TL in 28 mm). I was able to seat the tires easily with a regul...

My michelins that weren't due until November showed up a few days ago, so at some point I will finally ride my bike again. Dunno, I've been feeling like garbage lately without even beating myself up on 2 wheels. You guys have so much more energy than me it's nuts.

Re: Car Talk 5: The Juice is Loose!
Yeah this was driving from St Pete to Orlando and back today. It's really nice to not have to worry about cops, keeping your eyes on the road instead of the speedometer and the bushes.

Re: Car Talk 5: The Juice is Loose!
The TT hatch is fantastic. I'd be pretty happy with a base MQB version. Our old 2008 was nice too. I actually drove a car today for more than a few minutes and it felt weird. It had been probably 2 months or so since I last drove outside of town. FL driving definitely is stressful, but less so in a ...

Re: Dem bicicletas dos, doe.
They have 11-34 for 8 and 9 speed, plus 11-36 for 9 (and 10) speed, all in basic cheapo Shimano standard parts and they work with standard current road derailleurs. R2000/R3000 are both :nice: to use and very cheap. The only reason to go to 10+ speeds IMO is for hydraulic disc brakes. Well, TBH, ha...

Aren't all decent condos (in this country) super expensive like that? We specifically avoided a condo/townhouse for that reason. They're taxed the same as a house, then you add on another huge association bill which brings your minimum obligation up to be basically the same price as renting. All is...

Well, to be fair I don't really mind doing :manuel: labor... it is more the time suck of it all that blows, and that I don't really enjoy doing research. You could spend 40 hours/week researching the best plants and things for your house, planning how/where to put them, learning how to care for the...

Curious, what would you do for a whole month on the Acropolis? :dat: Missed that, but I don't know for sure since I've never been and probably never will go. Depending on what's still there and accessible to plebs, I would be down to nerd out around the area for a long time. Probably further out th...

Re: Dem bicicletas dos, doe.
You could do a :scrooge: 1x8 setup for like $200 all-in and see some massive ease-of-use improvements. My R2000 Claris 1x8 setup with the aliexpress crank on the Domane is perfect, as was the 3x8 Claris on my old Motobecane. I kind of want to sell my carbon bike at this point, it's not faster - at ...

Yeah, when I say van lyfe I mean living in a van down by the river. For occasional use you're better off with a hotel or a tent.

Re: Shopping in the worst car market ever...Summer 21 Plac Thread
$60k buys a looooot of plane tickets and hotel nights at nice places. You have to really love sleeping in a car and shittin in the woods and rest stops to justify the price of it all. At ~$200 a night in any metro area it buys you a year, plus you're hopefully no longer paying rent back "home&...

Van is pretty epic for long trips or staying anywhere near civilization. Not my thing anymore, but I could see it being great for some people with remote jobs. Drive to wherever, work from coffee shops or parks ZFG, ride bikes or play muzak the rest of the time.

Re: OT 20: rotisserie roller coaster
There's areas of Europe that aren't THAT expensive. I think the hardest thing would be working through the time difference if you had a gig here. Wife and I have talked about spending a few months in Spain, maybe it'll happen at some point. Spain is a great option. Also Malta, Croatia (especially D...

:howdy: Not much here, went to Connecticut for the weekend for a little college reunion of sorts. My buddy and his wife who both went to college with me live on a small lake up there, so we mostly just chilled on the water, did a bit of hiking around, and eating/drinking a lot. It was 5/7 but I fou...

I've been reading up on property tax laws here today, :jesus: it's a PITA. I'm trying to figure out how to improve our place without ended up paying $10k+ a year in taxes alone. At that point having a "paid off" home isn't quite so powerful. As it is we'll be on the hook for about $7k next...

Well, it's 17 years old and a Camry, so pretty much used up poverty to most people. Anything lightly used, that's within 5 model years old, is within a few $k of new MSRP right now. Vroom offered MSRP for our Crosstrek with 3k miles on it. That means they think they can sell it for more than new MS...

Re: OT 20: rotisserie roller coaster
The hard part is saving the millions needed to buy a place and retire there, because insignificant people like us are never going to get jobs there and we aren't lucky enough to have been born with family connections to the EU. I don't see why someone couldn't work a remote job based in the US in t...
