Car Talk 4: Gayges Gone Wild

All new, warranty plus fuel savings and maybe there is an arguement for something like that over a 4 yr old out of warranty truck like the touareg. Possibly .... the rav 4 will need nothing for 6/7 years other than tires and oil changes. Touareg May need a repair or 3 ... I'll take that as 3-5k in ...

:themoreyouknow: Glad to see some things never change, I'm pretty ok keeping it unless she insists that she wants something newer, and then I'd throw in sedans and/or hybrid options like the Rav and see if anything lije that interests her. Rav 4 is probably going to be around 35.... All new, warran...

This brings up a good point, playing the long term game, is it cheaper to keep this for four more years or buy a 40k thing that lasts 8 yrs? I do like that the t-reg is built like a Panzer :doe: Depending on motor+ trans used, I'd say yes it is. Buying anything new over something that has 40k miles...

Its not bad.. Would like to see how others fair with this task... buy back is going to be 25k plus tax (about 50% of new cost), 4 yrs old and 35-40k on the odometer so it might not be the best move. I might need to investigate this market segment, :disgust: :gag: I mean honestly... used car values ...

I want my wife to want a Durango/JGC.. I share this forum's contempt of women car buyers. Let me tell you a tale, which happened TODAY. Fresh news, brah. We have a dogsitter, Sarena.....she stays at our house every time we leave for the reasonable sum of $50/day. She is a caterer by trade, and always makes yummy stuff for us to arrive h...

:dat: Plus, we have 100% combined our finances so there really is no "her" and "my" money so I feel I have a tiny bit of say, though the ultimate choice will be hers. I just steered her to what I can stomach being seen in every now and then. Thus no Nissans, Fusions, Camry's, etc. And yes, I know C...

Man when the time comes my woman can get whatever she wants, I’m not trying to talk her in to shit, there’s just no way that ends well. I'd honestly get the Model 3 if I were you. I'm really intrigued by them. They are great... low depreciation... totally diff driving experience ... somewhat ok price. At 40k I’d have 0 hesitation ... 50k is a bit rough Add 10k and get a 60k appreciating GT-R or Gen 1 Audi R8... point is 50k is a lo...

This thread caused me to go look at the Buick lineup. Several of them look like a nice place to spend time but the powertrains are kind of a yawner.

It seems to me that (like the R) the biggest depreciation happens in the first three years and then they level out. Subaru strikes me as a pretty reliable brand, I think I would actually look at a used STI over a new WRX

Call me crazy but the R dsg is just sort of a boring car and the Manuel I found to be ok... it didn’t really add to the fun, as it has a rubbery feel, and a fairly liveless clutch. The wrx has a really great shifter feel, very mechanical and I found the clutch to be pretty ok as well. The type R is...

So pre-7.5 R DSG is out because the facelift is nicer and worth the extra 10k but too expensive to compete with the WRX?
