Re: OT 20: every man for himself

It doesn't have to be, but to do it right certainly can be more complicated. It might not have been clear, but we're not doing anything short term until we decide whether we're down with staying in this house long term. At that point, it becomes worthwhile to invest in a more efficient AC system ev...

Re: OT 20: every man for himself

Also, I had to fight the rusty screws and they dropped a pile of :salt: on the ground as they came out but we are officially DONE with the shithole of NY. Goodbye Empire, hello Republic (and no more front plate). :fuckyeah: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210513/12699d6e7d3b788fcc0afb4f7e1b2aaf.j...

Re: OT 20: every man for himself

We had a 3 zone programmable heating system in 1100 sq ft in NY, plus effectively a 4th zone using a space heater. In KY we had 2 or 3 programmable heat/ac zones set up too in 1700 sq ft. We're sensitive delicate flowers. This is 21st century America and we're not poor. We can't afford kids or pets...

Yes, Max, I'm a fucking dumbass loser who has trouble sleeping in heat yet married a woman who can't work in cold and we're so stupid we can't even afford a mansion. Guess we should suck it up and be uncomfortable to make you happy? You were uncomfortable in NY and now bitching about florida. I thi...

Re: The Garage at BeeBeep's

Meh. Base model with no air suspension or turbros. Skip the :dillerman: and drive it into the ground. Are base models pretty reliable? :notsure: I've also thought about base V8 Cayennes. No clue, I don't keep up with that kind of stuff. Non-turbro non-air-suspension Cayenne and touareg/Q7 probably ...

Re: OT 20: every man for himself

The main cost is not in adding zones, that part is cheap, a few hundred bucks per zone. The cost is in changing to a multi-stage compressor and multi-speed fan. Otherwise the only way to use zones is to effectively dump some conditioned air to outside in order to control distribution. Depending on ...

Re: OT 20: every man for himself

I actually think zoned HVAC in a small house makes more sense because it should be easier to retrofit, and it really maximizes efficiency. I'd love to figure it out on our 1,500 sq ft house, personally. The main cost is not in adding zones, that part is cheap, a few hundred bucks per zone. The cost...

Re: OT 20: every man for himself

When you're not a millionaire taking trips all over hell every week, it matters more to make home more comfortable assuming you're middle class enough to do so. I don't even understand how y'all have the free time to be on vacation constantly, but that's another conversation entirely. Our bedroom i...

I am actually renting a manual M235i in a few weeks on Turo in AZ  I don't think I would like it as much. I suppose I will talk it over more with the wife this weekend and see where we land. Yea... the non m 2 series just does nothing for me. So I wouldn’t exactly base my buying decision o...

OT 20: every man for himself

Zoning is the ultimate efficiency, only cooling the rooms you’re in. Even in a small house depending on the layout it can make a big difference. In the case of Troy’s house being mostly concrete block, there’s likely some rooms that might be underserved. Why cool the entire house down if it’s only ...

OT 20: every man for himself

+1. These are same kinds of complaints about driving with halogen headlights. Instant seppuku. You have a 4-6k house you need zones. Because it actually makes a difference by floor or area etc. 2k sq feet or less you’re breathing each other’s farts anyways. Zones don’t make sense. Just like in a c5...

Re: OT 20: every man for himself

:word: We have a 2015 rental-spec forced air system. It works but is not particularly efficient or adjustable/comfortable. Single-stage, zone, and speed = the AC is either on flat out or off. You basically bounce between feeling hot and cold depending on whether it's cooling. Our house had a rental...

Re: Tire Kicking By Griff

Yeah this is why I'm kind of ignoring the GTI suggestions. I had a GTI. It truly is a great car, it does everything well, but I just never really loved it and I don't think I'm going to start. It's funny about Desert and others saying the Type R is too flamboyant, and that is exactly why a GTI just...

Re: Tire Kicking By Griff

That might be the coolest option of all, though a 17-21 model will hopefully be cheap once the 22 is available. I just REALLY like the way the new one looks. Premium while being youthful "fun", reasonably nice looking interior, still :manuel: and engine updates will probably make at an id...

Re: OT 20: every man for himself

Not really. We're not going to do anything anytime soon, our rental-spec system is OK for now. Kitchen remodel will be the number one project. I don't expect being interested in minisplits :doe: with a house of multiple small rooms with already minimal wall space (and concrete walls), plus forced a...

Re: OT 20: every man for himself

We're looking at $15-20k installed if we want to put in a good (multi-zone, multi-stage, variable fan speed) central AC system for ~1200 sq ft. Up there you need a good heat pump too lest you end up with $400 electric bills in the winter. Everything is expensive now. Inflation is zero! Have you loo...

The area has exploded. Had they maintained and updated the property over the last 30 years, they could have easily fetched $600k+ right now. However, this house is a dump, and the last comparable property was in the same range. That property actually had 8 offers on it, but 7 of them were pulled wh...

Yeah I tried 8 or 10 different saddles at the store, that was the main benefit for me. Fizik Arione is the only shape that I have ever felt OK on so far (I hesitate to call it actually comfortable).
