Car Talk 5: The Juice is Loose!

That may be true but too many people, too much traffic, too much squalor. Your rock music capital thing sounds like fun....but not lately. Those of us who grew up in the Midwest and parta of the east coast glamorize the hell out of LA. Rock capital, movie capital, it's where all the cool shit seems...

@max just saw your defender comment. Love them and think it fits everything I want outside of mpgs, but I also don't want to spend more than ~$40k if I end up replacing the CTR.

It occurs to me that Fap and I (and a few others) are traveling in reverse time versus most of the board. Automotive Tenet, if you will. We did the utilitarian appliance thing first (for years and years) and ended up with the GTI later in life. The dub was somewhat a revelation for us.....sporty bu...

:dat: :dat: :dat: That's exactly it. I think that’s just a justification for selling it which doesn’t really make sense. Getting your shit fked up whether it is a Camry or a Supra feels the same imo especially at similar price points. I do get the hassle of the manual, giant wheels and attention of...

I see, well that sort of shit scratches also, my Tacoma wheel arches are quite prone to it. And spending 40k on a Subaru and scratching it to shit sounds just as appealing as doing it to a CTR. I just don’t get the argument. I think the argument being made here isn’t oh my god I want to buy a $40k ...

Since when do subarus have unpainted bumpers ? There's a lot of black plastic on mine https://i.gaw.to/vehicles/photos/40/25/402544-2021-subaru-outback.jpg?1024x640 https://cdcssl.ibsrv.net/autodata/images/?IMG=CAD00SUS311C01301.JPG&WIDTH=736 Yeah, I may be :wrong: but I think that looks great.

75ish% of the miles I put on my cars are from road trips a few times a year. The other 25% is on pitted out city streets barely breaking 30mph, which is my daily driving. What do you want out of a car right now? :dat: The Type R is 95% as practical as long as 4 seats are enough and there’s no desire to do some soft-roading . I’ll never even drive mine on a gravel road most likely, but at least the ride height is in sort of that Goldilocks zone for loading and unload...

Lol, no offense taken and a valid comment. I'm coming to terms that the Type R is the wrong choice for my current situation, and a Outback XT checks a lot of the boxes for what I want from a car. Trying to figure out what other cars would fit the bill for me that I would want to own as well, but am...

Safe to assume you drove the Outback? It's way bigger than what I need, but I'm trying to resist a very strong urge to go test drive an Onyx XT as a Hype R replacement. I have. It’s lame as fuck. I don’t mean to offend but I’ll be blunt - I have no idea why anyone would ever consider trading a Type...

Drove a CRV Hybrid yesterday. It drives better than the Toyota. More like a car. Steering had better weight and felt much more direct. Seats were more comfortable with bottom cushions that were a hair longer. Cargo area is smaller for sure so that sucks. And no spare tire. CRV is ugly as shit insid...

It's never super easy to make such a major life decision in a :rage: fit, without the ironclad safety net of a new job in hand, even if you were planning on doing it for a while now. You'll be 5/7 :fuckyeah: once you accept one of several job offers that are soon to be presenting themselves to you....

:doit: Criticisms on QC aside, I'm in the minority with you and really like Teslas. Would happily drive a Model 3. A Model 3 is different, I can see the case for that. A $100k Model X is :fullretard: :doe: Its looks are certainly polarizing, but I can definitely see the appeal. 7 seater that gets t...

The model X is an ugly overpriced jellybean. Sure it's fast, but I'd hardly consider them unique. Especially out by you. Hell, I see more of them in middle of nowhere northern MI than any other EV. Pass. I don't get your sudden love for Tesla. Did Elon give you a reach around with the solar panel i...

Because most of us are from from that in reality...though with a deeper understand of the term, I think the right winner was crowned. I don't do or agree to anything that I can't get into myself. Yea, it's such a jack of all trades that it makes you want something more skewed in one direction or another. If it's not going to be outstandingly sporty, at least be comfortable and get decent mileage. Oddly, it's why I like the Cucktrek so much. Sure, it's not fast, but the steering and handling...

I think we all sort of grew out of them... go figure it has been a decade now... I got my TDI in 2011 :yikes: :wap: They are not really fast, they are not really fun, and they are not really practical. GTIs are ok at all of the above but excel at nothing. For some of us it make sense to go up the p...

Yea going from a CTR to a Golf R makes just about 0 sense to me. However... the new WRX or STI if they finally put a normal motor in it is a solid contender. Yea. REALLY curious what the new WRX looks like. Me too. The current STI may be dated but it has so much character and is a blast to drive.

My favorite thing about my GTI was that I didn't care about it. Parked it anywhere, ran it through automated carwashes because I didn't feel like spending time cleaning it "properly", etc. It was a great car, but not the right car for me. I brought this all up with the partner yesterday a...

Counterpoint to the GTI/R lol: I drive my R like a base beater car, it has some nice features but to your point also has three bent barrels and a 300 HP motor that never gets exercised. Police and insurance companies extract every bit of fun there is in public road commuting, so my next cuck-mobile...

Sports cars/sporty cars suck IRL now. There's nowhere really fun to drive them in the vast majority of country due to terrible roads, :derp: , police, etc. I just don't see a compelling reason to own them other than to please some random dudes on the internet. The best you can do now is something r...
