At which point are you going to look for alternative vehices/fuels...

Just curious, we've crossed into $4 gas out here in cali thanks to our awesome laws... Seems like everyone is still :aintcare: out here... which is :impressive: highest prices since 2008 for us...

I think my mental breakeven point is $6 a gallon at which point i'll likely get something electric. We're not that far off...

I think I would just drive less unless I have to. I don’t think we are in full blown :nuke: status yet but yeah the higher it goes the more inclined anyone would be to look at alternative sources.

Fuel Cell/Hydrogen tech will boom in the next 10 years.

A quick perusing of www.worldometers.info shows that we have about 45 years until the end of oil. :doomed:

About 160 until end of Natural Gas, and 409 until end of Coal.

Also, a lot of solar energy goes to waste because it’s not being harvested.

We've had 45 years of oil left for the last 35 years. Not saying we won't run out at some point, but the whole XX years left is a bit tiring.

I'm not sure what my price would be, but >$4 I start considering driving less. The FiST gets 28mpg combined. The bike is in the mid-30s. I'd have to drive WAAYY moar miles before a hybrid or electric start to make sense from a cost of fuel standpoint.

I burned through a $60 gas tank in 3 days... :disgust:

I know the feels. I drove a brodozer 70+ miles a day w/ $5/gal diesel. Over $100 a week in fuel.

Price of gasoline has exactly zero impact on me right now having 23 months left on the lease and just about having a free car for the next two years, but it'll definitely influence what I get next. If the MK7s continue to prove to be more reliable than the prior gen I'd guess it'll be a 2017 GTI Sport unless I really need something bigger. Then probably a manual Accord Sport, but either would just be the DD. Idea would be to add something that's actually fun to the garage...:meata:, S2000, :poorvette:...something RWD for sure, and either targa or convertible to appease the wife.

If the trajectory of gas prices stays low, maybe I'd keep the tractor, but chances of that are slim given it'll be an easy $10k+ more than either of those other two options.

I think it was more like pay to commute... i average around 21mpg which isn't exactly terrible for having 440 wheel hp.

Honestly, no increase will make me change my habits. I don't drive that much as-is, and already drive on EV for most of my commuting miles for free. The gas guzzlers in my fleet are just for fun mostly and will continue to be regardless of how much it costs to fill the tanks.

My issue back in 2008 was as follows... my JGC was averaging 15mpg and gas was around 4.80 a gallon ... a trip to the lake and back was ~$100 in gas... which is nothing to sneeze at.

But really, domestic production should be able to ramp up pretty quickly and bring prices back in check. Those in CA are screwed because of :thanksobama: but in the rest of the country, this will likely be a small blip. Gas prices still aren't over $3/gal here in Meatchicken for 87. 93 is like $3.70 or something, but still :aintcare:

:dat:

Costco membership paying for itself in gas, even though we don't drive much. $2.79 for regular, $3.29 for premium. The Shell stations nearby were $2.99 or a bit more for regular, $3.59 or $3.69 for 93.

I still can't believe the "spread" between regular and premium. It is 20-30 cents for us here in cali... and 70-90 cents over there... wild.

i already drive a fuel efficient vehicle and also don't waste 10 waking hours a week on the fucking highway so fuel prices don't actually cost me that much. If they double it won't hurt.

so never fuk u :225:

I get exactly 10% worse MPG with costco... I don't know why but I tested it on 3 different vehicles and it is consistently shittier. Also... the lines are fucking long... ~10 min wait to fill up... and save $2-3

Yea, I dunno. On the highway my truck gets 18-20mpg, so we'll use 18. Most of my adventure trips are 2-400 miles away, so round trip WORST case is 800. divided by 18 is 44 gallons. If gas goes for $5, I'll have spent $220 in travel for my craziest trips, compared to $127 (MI is at $2.90). $100 increase? :aintcare: for something I enjoy.

Especially since airline tickets will go up at a rate of 1:1 or worse, so it's really just what it costs to have fun. Life is expensive. Kill yourself or just deal.
