I never understood the point of electric cars with double digit ranges. I mean yea... "everyone drives less than 50 miles a day" type scenarios but that essentially confines the car to a city.
Pure EVs with double digit ranges make zero sense. Hell, anything with less than 300 miles range is a tough sell in a lot of the country IMO.
I dunno 300 miles range is actually found in a lot of vehicles, my m3 is 300, m2 is 250, RX8 is 200, WRX STI is 200-240 tops. All the AMG benzes are sub 300 as well. IMO 200 or less is not ok. That means 2x a week getting gas for most people. Some say :whocares: I do. Gas stations are :disgust: and you have to deal with the scum that roams around putting $5 cash in a tank every other day.

That's a big draw for electric cars. You never have to set foot into those shithole places ever again. Fuel at home or with "normal" folk at superchargers or whatnot.

Yea, but gas stations are everywhere and it's fast to "add range". Can't do that with an EV. I think EVs need more range than gas cars until the infrastructure gets there.

We've got a number of nice gas stations around, no need to deal with scum.

Superchargers are for Teslas only. What good does that do for widespread industry adoption?

We've got a long time. 15 years plus.

Where's the infrastructure? Plus, charging tech isn't there to make topping up range fast enough yet.

I'm talking about mass adoption here. Sure, we'll see lots more :waxer: EV stuff, and that's fine and well. But when you can actually buy a 300 mile range EV for $30k and top up the range anywhere in under 10 minutes then we'll talk about mass adoption. That's going to take decades.

80% of porsches sold are soul sucking SUVs. It isn't a sport car company anymore. Of course that will go electric because those consumers want a POD+Lectric. They will likely base it on the Etron

Adding range is irrelevant when you can charge at home. I don't understand the point of "going to a gas station" as an advantage, it is nowhere near as convenient as charging at home.

Road trips are a whole different story.

I do very frequent 300+ mile road trips to relatively remote areas. I can't even consider a pure EV at this time.

Right, no arguing road trips. There is little infrastructure for this outside of superchargers. And even those take a long ass time compared to anything else.

But for me at least, flying is so damn cheap that road trips are not a convenient source for transport.

It all depends on personal use. I go places that you can't fly to. But I like being in the middle of nowhere because I hate people.

The issue is all the people that think they go on a on of road trips and won't consider EV's as a result. That's going to be a big hurdle.

I still think plug-ins are the answer in the short term. I'm really curious to see what the Wrangler plug-in looks like.

I never liked the CLA either. I think they're ugly and have a squatting ass that doesn't look like it was designed for the car, it looks like a transplant.. butt implant?? Lastly, I wouldn't want to buy the MB that is marketed as the Toyota Camry of MB cars. I would much rather GTI or Golf before a CLA every day of the week.

Nope, but I'm also selective about the gas stations I go to. The worst I've ever had is a homeless dude try to wash my windshield...and it was dirty so I let him and gave him a dollar. He was happy, I was happy, good deal.

Nope. I roll my window down, tell the attendant to fill it, and wait for my tank to fill up. Once done, I get my receipt and drive off.

:wrong: this never happens. I hate people as well and gas stations force interactions occasionally, it doesn't happen every time, but it happens occasionally enough where it is a detriment.

I don't have hookers/beggars at home, well occasionally I do but that's a different story, those are invited guests.

$44,000 today is equal to $36,900 in 2009.
People are paying 13.5% more. But they're getting a much better, more capable, more standard features vehicle.
