yall must have shit luck. my has been pretty good to me with minimal maintenance and stage two brah.
Considering what I have put mine through, it's not doing too bad at 14 years and 135k miles. We just won't talk about that time the differential ate itself in 2009.
But seriously, I bet the hell out of this car on the regular.

Even I have walked Zilch’s fiesta out of the garage because I couldn’t figure out that to put it in reverse you had to push up on the little ring...
Zilch needs to get a Nest cam with 5 days of video storage just so we can save moments like this.

Zilch has been kicking around a VW for the next car. I keep over Club 18t days and the ex. And those fucking peeling interiors. I refuse. Wife card played.
VW doesn't currently make a sports convertible that can tow a motorcycle. No sale.
they are replacing the fuel pump for free...but they want $500 to open the engine to see the issue. the codes that are being thrown are high pressure this time instead of low pressure. can the fuel pump cause this banging? should I have them replace fuel pump first under warranty before they dig into the engine?

Yes, they should do the fuel pump first as a diagnostic. Then they should dig into the engine on their dime if that doesn't solve the problem.

Yeah, that doesn't compute. Those are two totally different, non dependent things. Clearly trying to get money out of you while they warranty something that doesn't make them much, if any, coin.
"I just paid you $700 to open up the engine and something got messed up while you were in there. I'm not paying you to fix your mistakes."
When they replace fuel injectors and coils, did they have the engine open, and carbon cleaning?
That's a question for someone more technical than myself. I can do basic maintenance wrenching, but I haven't had the opportunity to fuck with and learn stuff like that.

My only comment is, do not spend any money, and if they get it running, immediately drive it to another dealership and trade it in for something else.
Asking for $500 to take a look is pure fuckery.

The way his engine sounded, he'd be lucky to get it to another dealer.
Do not pay them any money, and insist they fix what they fucked up.

I am not good at that. What do I say to them?
Absolutely do not pay the $500.
Remind them of the fact that they gave you the car back and as you were leaving the check engine light started flashing immediately. That's one red flag.
They also replaced fuel injectors, and had the intake manifold off, as well as a carbon cleaning service you paid for. They had the engine open enough to cause issues. Within miles of taking the car back, these issues start.

Fuel pumps are a 5 minute job to do yourself.
"I just paid you $700 to open up the engine and something got messed up while you were in there. I'm not paying you to fix your mistakes."
Effectively, this. They just had the car for several days for fuel related issues. If they screwed something up with the fuel system - first low pressure, then high pressure - and caused it to run so lean it melted itself, this is on them.
Remind them that the car didn't even leave the dealership before lights were flashing. This car was obviously not thoroughly QC'd or road tested after "completion".

you have a point, but that got fixed. Other than my headliner i've had zero non-self-inflicted issues with my

That's how mine was. Any problem it had was self-inflicted. Ran strong for 160k miles.
