We towed snowmobiles to the UP and the mountains in Idaho with a RWD van and blizzaks back in the 90s/00s when the tires weren't as good. Ain't nobody need no 4WD.

Not hardcore offroading, just some sand dunes and easy trails.
Still, I'm entertaining a $10k 4x4 something if I can find it.

Yep, totally. It'll all depend on finding the right thing...i.e. a well cared for southern/western truck. An Avalanche would be perfect for what I want, but they're pricey just like everything 4x4 right now.

My friends dad got on his 3rd trans on his trailblazer before he sold it, he's the kind of guy that shouldn't own anything other than Japanese cars, and now he drives a Jetta, I hope to god it won't poop on him.

134k on it, under $5k price. That's pretty solid, it won't really lose value from there. Also 1 owner vehicle that appears to have been regularly serviced. Good looking truck.

Xterras have absolutely the best bang for the buck. But they turned into giant hideous monsters with their newer body styles.
4 runners are good but you have to
they need timing belts ... a very pricy maintenance
