I'd argue that every bridge needs to have protective barriers/bumpers for this type of shit... especially if they are heavily trafficked.

Not like this happened before.

And they do.

I think his general sentiment was more along the lines of "Can't design for every situation." and I found his way of delivering that message comical.

Found this at Safeway (probably branded as Albertson’s where you’re at). Was trying to stock up on normal Korean kimchi and saw them and had to grab them.

Isn't that one, to the right of the second most support from the foreground? Or is that a buoy?

Edit: It can also be designed into the foundation.
For the bridge that was damaged, obviously the design basis did not account for ships that large.

Just sort of curious since Baltimore is a huge port... and Huge ships are kind of an every day thing... you'd think someone would have done "something"... Especially post the incident in florida... one can say "bridge standards changed" but then again the GG bridge is like a solid 50 years older than the Baltimore one...

I am not blaming the engineers per say... but it seems like those barriers are a must given that they are present in so many other bridges + history of this happening.

I guess? It seems like a completely ineffective design given the fact that a 1000 foot long ship managed to strike the bridge.

Hey but the good thing is that no one is talking about... They called it in and almost all traffic was stopped minus those unfortunate construction crews! Which is actually incredible.

:jelly:

I’ve thought about trying to make my own, but the Wildbrine brand I buy is just so good and I doubt I’d make it better than that.

Where can one procure such a delicacy?
:dat:

I’m interested. No Safeway back east in Flyover country though.

I love pickles. I enjoy kimchi, but it can be hit or miss. I got Korean food in NYC last night and it was quite legit. The Korean lady waitress was so disappointed when I said I was going vegetarian :lolol: but it was still delish.

Interesting commentary on the bridge here. Pretty wild stuff, did they find anyone that was lost in the water? Is it actually true that the US hasn’t built any major bridges in decades or is that just :fax: stuff?

There are several others being built, or soon to be, under that Infrastructure Bill that passed a couple years ago.

Dude they just replaced a major bridge here in 2015. And it was shipped here from CHYNA. I wish I was making that up. They then knocked down the other bridge standing next to it

:word: I assumed made up :fax: but was too lazy to research. The Arthur Ravenal Bridge in Charleston is pretty incredible as well and was built in the aughts.

I’ve actually been to Hoover Dam before and after that so should’ve thought of it. It is indeed :mindblown: I remember driving over it the first time in the Bang Bus circa 2015 or 16 in the dark and the cross wind was pretty wild. I later saw what it looked like/the gap below and was retroactively terrified :lolol:
