Do it for the lulz, the 6th gear is so damn tall you won't lose much in the way of highway cruising.
If I have to replace my pinion bearing I'll do 3.90s in a heart beat. Easy way to get more brub in the tub.

Just such a slippery slope. I have a horrible track record with "while I'm in there" upgrades.

Diff upgrade and a clutch, what else is there?
I would consider any mounts that are exposed, but keep it simple man.

Heads/cam.

Not to mention, gears destroy what little resale is left should I go that route eventually.

If I ever want to do a cam, now's the time when I have the front end torn apart. I never want to do that job again.

And if I cam, I might as well get the heads out of the way so it's tuned once. Otherwise, it's another $300 down the road for a tune for the heads.

But doing it all including gears is like $4k.

And it'll probably end up being fucked in some way and I'll lose another season driving it.

Well, that's the thing. IF it all worked out, it would be the most :lolol: car I've ever had...maybe ever driven. For $4k, the temptation is significant.

Clutch is non-negotiable...the car isn't currently drivable. Unfortunately, it takes so much disassembly that now is the time to do a bunch of "while I'm in there" shit. But the slope is so slippery.

The best move is to do what Max said and just throw a replacement LS6 clutch at it, fix the FMS and steering rack, and be done with it. But that's just not very...fun.

Breh, go balls out with it.

4k ain't a lot to dump into those mods, considering you can always sell the diff later.

When some fucker pulls up next to you, and says "More than you can afford pal, C7" you know you're going to enjoy laying the hammer down and smoking their smug gold chain adorned overly tanned face.

I somehow don't see the 4k thing as being a viable parts cost... it has got to add up to more than that... but i dunno.

I wouldn't say the Z06 gears are pretty long. That 1st and 2nd gear are over pretty damn quick in mine. I thought about doing 3.90s in the C5Z but I didn't want to be redlining in 2nd when I autocross.
:bruh: 2nd gear goes to like 77 mph with 3.42

77? Lol more like 70. 1st and 2nd go QUICK in the Z. Merkle might remember where it redlined when he test drove it. I checked it once but quickly forgot. I really considered 3.90s, likely still would. It's my race car so I wouldn't mind a nice gear change.... Even though it hooks up really nice right now so I don't know how I'd feel about more wheelspin. I really like how it currently handles in autocross.

Heads/cam and all accompanying pieces...$2,300
Clutch (~550hp holding aftermarket)...$700
Diff rebuild with new gears...$1,000 (might be a bit more, but I'd try to find someone local).

That's $4k. There's random shit that will pop up in addition, so call it $4,500 or so.

Doing the diff later is probably the right move, but while it's out...

76.9 mph at 7000 rpm in 2nd with Z06 stock gears and tires.

Z06 trans with 4.105 rear = 64.0 mph 2nd gear at 7k, 3rd gear goez to 92.7, 4th to 132.6. RPM at 75 mph cruise in 6th = 2218.

Base trans with 4.105 rear = 74.5 mph 2nd gear at 7k, 3rd gear goes to 102, 4th to 132.6 (4th is same in both). RPM at 75 mph on 6th = 1980.

4.10 is NOT excessive at all.

I think you're comparing the C5 Z to something else, because 1) All the links I see show the Z06 transmission maxing around 71 in 2nd gear, and 2) it redlines at 6,500, not 7,000.

And I never complained about 4.10 being excessive, but for me 4.10 gears with a shorter 1st and 2nd would mean that much more shifting. Not sure that I'd really want to be much busier than I already am. Everything I read online says that 3.90 is the sweet spot. If I were dragging it I'd def go 4.10s

Ideal shift point for C5Z transmission and LS6 cam is about 7400 rpm to maximize area under the curve.

If detroit :plac: is going to run a hotter-than-LS6 cam, his ideal shift point will likely be just as high despite his gears being closer together.

(No, not the car)
I bought two more 18x10.5 OEM Speedlines
Ordered 275/35/18 RE-71R Tars for them.

Poorvette Racing just took off for the big leagues.
