Yes they are. Peak dad car is rs6 wagon. Peak mom “car” is G63 amgGberg2119 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 09, 2021 10:18 amBut isn’t an RS3 or an F80 M3 an even cooler dad car?razr390 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 7:31 pm I drive a lot with the kiddo but only cuz we have to (San Antonio isn’t exactly a let’s walk 1-10 blocks to the park city). GTI has been more than fine. I think you’d love the R as a “dad car” that’s still fun. I take her to car shows whenever we have the opportunity to go and it feels good to have a “car enthusiast” car that I can actually live with as well.

Sure but you’re likely overpaying and getting less warranty in the long run.Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 09, 2021 10:18 amBut isn’t an RS3 or an F80 M3 an even cooler dad car?razr390 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 7:31 pm I drive a lot with the kiddo but only cuz we have to (San Antonio isn’t exactly a let’s walk 1-10 blocks to the park city). The GTI/S3/etc. are really only passable as family cars, IMO. I would have been willing to put up with it long term if we only had two kids given we also have the Atlas, but with forward-facing car seats, there is VERY little leg room for your kiddo(s) in back unless the front seats are slid pretty far forward. My 5'6" wife has to have her knees practically in the glove box for my son to not complain about having no leg room. If he were behind me he basically wouldn't be able to move his legs at all.
If some part of the decision hinges on the car also being able to handle a kiddo or two in the future, I'd keep that in mind.

I may have read it wrong. Said that’s my price to compare but it looks like it’s actually cheaper? Electric was $71.73 last month using 469 kWh. There’s distribution, generation, and transmission charges. They’re different but close enough. Those multiplied by 469 plus a few other random charges gives me the $71.73. Would the Tesla be classified under generation?
Distribution - $0.06463
Generation - $0.06012
Transmission - $0.00585
Am I though? Audi’s come with a 4 year 50k.
BMW, yes, less warranty. I think their certified warranties used to be good but probably not anymore.
Yeah I remember when my brother had his Mk5 the seat was pretty far forward for both rear and forward facing.coogles wrote: ↑Tue Nov 09, 2021 11:17 am The GTI/S3/etc. are really only passable as family cars, IMO. Its generation + Distribution + Transmission so you should be ~15 cents as previously estimated above... FYI per my earlier if you were to drive 1k miles per month... you'd roughly double your electricity bill.Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 09, 2021 11:22 amI may have read it wrong. Yes, it is. My 328i is a dece dad car, but an M3 is of course better (or something else in that range). If you ca afford it, why not?Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 09, 2021 10:18 amBut isn’t an RS3 or an F80 M3 an even cooler dad car?razr390 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 08, 2021 7:31 pm I drive a lot with the kiddo but only cuz we have to (San Antonio isn’t exactly a let’s walk 1-10 blocks to the park city). Have you looked at the new CLA AMG45? That thing seems really cool! No
I've always liked them but I think the allure of the 5 cylinder beats it out.
Looks like it's only 1 year with unlimited mileage tacked on to whatever is left of the 4 year 50k.
FWIW the F series BMWs seem to be pretty stout so far, mine is seven years old and trouble free. Even the M cars seem like a safer bet than Ms of old.

We won’t know about m cars just yet. The oldest one is 5 years old at the moment. Plenty of real shit starts failing @ year 7+ for them as that’s the design limit for the cpo.
Also the days when everyone was saying how “reliable” the E9X m3 was when it was 0-5 years old … and then … rod bearing … intake actuators… oil consumption … and all the typical bmw bullshit.
However the F80 is at least the first one that can run on Walmart oil.
They do seem like the sweet spot. How different is the S55 from the N55? N55 is solid IIRC. M tax on parts of course will make it more expensive but how much really?
I guess it really comes down to Audi releasing the order guide so I know what I’m dealing with. Playing around on the German site, everything is an option like usual over there. Who knows what will be standard here. Colors aren’t bad I guess but the only blue is “turbo blue” which looks similar to the Focus RS blue.
With the Tesla my brother-in-law insists he actually does get the 300+ mile range out of a charge without any hypermiling tricks.

Those are even more cramped than my mk7 in the back seat. But they are a freaking riot to drive, ridden in one as a passenger, ride quality is exactly the same as my GTI was.
