Buddy of mine bought a TJ with the same five speed/i6 combo just this week. I am to give it a whirl.

$9K but it appears to actually be quite a nice example. Seems like if the Wrangler version is $9K, JGC of the same type should be like $4K max.

I drove both the 5 speed and 6 speed versions of that combo. And the 4at. But I have never been a fan of that engine… it’s coarse … loud and slow. The 4.7 V8 is way better that’s in tons of WJs.

It always seemed overrated to me as well. It's pretty durable, that's all that's really going for it.

I've only ever driven it with the 4AT in some Cherokees/Grands, I've driven a five speed four cyl. YJ as well which was quite slow

Max isn't wrong. The legend of the 4.0 surpasses reality IMO. I've never understood the for them and I've owned a few. They love to overheat, and nothing is reliable if/when it overheats. Not to mention oil leaks, head issues on later ones, complex french fuel injection on early ones, meh. They are likely more reliable than other things, but only by so much.

It's on the high end, but I'd be surprised if he gets asking for it. I'd probably come in with a $7k offer and see what happens. I really like buying from a long term owner that can tell me a lot about the history of the truck. I also highly value stockness and cleanliness. This 07 would be a crap shoot from a dealer who will tell you anything to get you to buy it. I will not buy a used vehicle of this age from a dealer.

The other one with it's new trans is promising I'd check something like that out for sure.

Known Flaws

The Carfax history report notes that this E550 sustained "minor damage" to its rear end in January 2018. It adds that "minor damage" is usually cosmetic, like dents and scratches on the body. "Minor damage" was reported again in July 2013, though no details are available about the second incident.

Passenger-side front tire sidewall damaged
Some creases on the driver's seat's outer bolsters
Some rust on some of the underbody components

two accidents + what's the full service history ... also 07 is the "soft camshaft" year that can grenade at any point and destroy the engine.

2009's are the absolute best W211s money can buy. Also airmatic

Yep. And having owned that V8, can confirm the epic thrust. You just have to build about $1000 per corner for every failed air shock if you want replacement Brosteins. The Arnotts are less but also ride worse. The Arnott air suspension replacement SUCKS. You would have to heavily research whether you could get a Brostein Coilover setup to replace the Air. The air ultimately kills the 550 for me, I have actually been stranded/needed a flatbed when one of the shocks died. As previously noted, black paint sucks.
