One time flood event <<<<>>>> rust that looks like years of some kind of metal abusive agent destroying the metal.
Right I'm agreeing with you. Something else is at play besides standard road salt like Johnny p said because it it was my mountaineer would have looked the same as it spent 20 years in road salt states
Nobody believes me when I say this but this area is a swamp marsh. Schuylkill river delta. Nothing drains here you drive through water puddles every day.
Also when it snows the saying is we would rather have someone trip over a pile of salt than slip on a patch of ice.

Just "normal" old car issues. 15+ years anything made of rubber has gone to shit basically.
The truck has been up north since new too, so that certainly doesn't help. Rubber stuff usually does well here, but hard lines will rust out.
Just gayging based on my old car experiences, some rubber does ok, but things that are surrounded in engine oil do wear out over time, the temperature cycles take their toll. My crown vic has a few small leaks in several areas.

Can I ask a serious question on here... this is not a troll etc.
But is up with all this insane "off road armor" etc, and all this raising of the SUVs, adding the giant tires. It completely destroys the on road characteristics. If trail running is the name of the game why not get something like https://ranger.polaris.com/en-us/ranger-crew-570-4/ and tow it behind a jeep? It will be far more capable than most SUVs etc...
Having experienced one recently I find it hard to make the mental./on road sacrifice of adding all those parts to a 4x4 vehicle.
Why do you hate malls bro?

I honestly don't get it either.
I would absolutely rock a side by side if I had a place to store it and more places to drive it. At least a stock ZR2 is super capable offroad and makes a solid DD.

No question, the question was around someone throwing a set of 40s and a lift kit etc on the Colorado. Essentially neutering it as a DD capable truck or severely compromising it
