I think it comes down to this. If you have a shitload of kids are you actually worried about “image” or are you just after the best / most functional solution? Vans are pretty lame, sure. But they’re easier to live with if you’re constantly packing the littles in. For many people that functionality and the ease of use will reign supreme.
As the kids get bigger and into boosters the van becomes less necessary IMO. Because they can then climb into vehicles better, buckle themselves, whatever. For the parents at least. The kids will continue to like the van a hell of a lot more.
I have 2 sisters and 1 brother. We had minivans the switched to a Fraud Expedition. The SUV was fucking awful compared to the vans.
I think the Image is important and how the car makes you fucking feel at the end of the day. Having kids is not giving up on life for ex. Some compromise to maintain some sort of "fun" is valid.
Some people overdo it and strap infants to the roof of a 911. And go "skiing with a lamBRO"
The opposite spectrum is buying a fugly shit van and saying "my life is over anyways so what do I care"
There is plenty of "life" in the middle and that's why those choices are popular.
Both my cars for ex are technically minivans, one a two row and one a 3 row. But one has a 560hp and the other over 600... do I feel like I want to die every night? no. Would I prefer a van because its more "practical" ?! fuck no.
The other example is commuting in a gti vs a prius, yes they are both fugly hatchbacks but one is actually fun and you're not giving up. A minivan and it's stigma is SOOOO FAR off the "caring" scale that its a symbol of giving up, getting a gut and just being an absolute CUCK and actually using that hotel chair on the regular. It is what it is...

yea max, but normal people in the breeding class cannot afford one much less two 70k+ vehicles.

Also one kid. Add three more kids. And cut your household income by 60%. How does this change things?

The question wasn’t about income. The question was about van life

They are not. A new Sienna is 50k+ nothing "affordable" here. If you want to make apples to apples comparisons.

The starting MSRP for the 2025 Honda Odyssey ranges from $41,920 to $50,880, depending on the trim level. The EX-L trim has a starting MSRP of $41,920. Other trims include the Sport-L at $43,070, Touring at $46,610, and Elite at $50,880.
The 2020 Dodge Grand Caravan had a starting MSRP of $27,530. The MSRP varied depending on the trim level, with the SE trim starting at $27,530, the SE Plus at $30,330, and the SXT at $32,995. The top-of-the-line GT trim had a starting MSRP of $35,535.
The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the 2025 Toyota Sienna starts at $39,185 for the LE trim with front-wheel drive and ranges up to $56,445 for the Platinum trim. The MSRP varies based on trim level and whether the vehicle is front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive
The starting MSRP for the 2025 Kia Carnival ranges from $38,235 to $52,335, depending on the trim and options selected. The LX trim has a starting MSRP of $38,235, while the top-tier SX Prestige trim starts at $52,335, according to Kelley Blue Book and Car and Driver.
1. Thats totes inline with avg new car pricing.
2. Its the same as SUV things, broadly speaking
3. one does not have to buy the top trim level when on a budget
4. Contrary to your life outlook, used vehicles *exist*

1. Yes but since when is 45-60 k affordable. No new vans start under 40k, the OEMs are simply not building those models. They exist on paper only.
2. Yes but SUVs are less "death by a 1000 cuts" which was the whole point of this before you made it about money.
3. No one should be buying "new" on a budget
4.My caddy was purchase used thank you very much.
The quote on a 6 Model year old Dodge Caravan is diabolical. Yes my grandpa bought a tricycle for 100 rupes back in the day. Not relevant.

i/we replaced the wifes 2017 330ix wagoon with a new loaded Sante Fe box toaster.
I like the function on the inside. Luckily I cant see the outside while riding in it. a 2025 addition.
I was out on replacing the adaptive suspension. That was the final straw.

1. I didnt say it was affordable, I said inline with other cars
2. Strong disagree. Vehicles are tools. Cars can be both fun an practical. Sports cars give up on practicality, accords give up on fun - lots of choices in between. SUVs are just cars with lift kits for the most part now. Mini vans for kid hauling. Trucks for truck shit, hauling, towing, etc.
3. This is also true.
4. ohyou.gif with your 600 mile 'used' car.

Bolded one: Interesting. I see these all over and find the looks........controversial.
Bolded two: When I bought my 2017 440i, I really wanted the blue painted waxables front and rear, but to get them you had to get the adaptable suspension, which was a hard no. How much to replace?

I find these interesting. Don’t hate them but I think I’ll tire of the design pretty quickly. They seem pretty nice inside.

Ok, ok, I’ll be the one to say it. The Santa Fe is FUUUUUGGGGGGLLLYYYYY.
So is a minivan though, and I still think they’re dope. I don’t see how getting the superior tool for a job is giving up.
It’s also funny that I sparked all this and am one of relatively few driving a sports car. I don’t ‘want’ a minivan, I just think it’s a superior tool to a telluride or grand highlander or the like at its job.
A Telluride is also not really compatible to a 600 HP BMW rocket ship that can be totaled by getting the windows tinted. Not at all the same thing.

Bold. Yes, exactly. Its why i got one at one point.
Italics, also yes, they are in entirely different price classes as well.
BMW should make a minivan.

Yeah I mean I’d drive this. If they are reliable I might try and dump one of the Hondas in a couple years for one of these used. They retain value like used condoms.
