Santa is bringing me this:
https://icecofreezer.com/products/vlpro ... frigerator
And this:
https://icecofreezer.com/products/iceco ... er-station
No I'm not going overlanding. I'm just tired of fucking with ice. I'm also tired of deadlifting a 100 lb+ Yeti full of said ice and food into a pretty high Tahoe load deck. It will eventually snakebite me.
Now all I have to do is put in the food and plug er' in to the truck. Stop at a hotel somewhere on a whim? No problem, plug the cooler/freezer into the battery for up to 24 hours.
So I bought some useless junk recently...

Alright so I lost one of my buds from my airpods and has been a week now. That being said, lately I only use them mostly when Im calling someone, especially when im working, so just for those purposes alone, I prefer a compact pod like headphones. But other primary purposes such as gym, flying/travel, commuting via public transport (rarely in dc especially solo), I may viably prefer a more traditional set over head type headphones and sell the remaining I have left of my airpoddies or keep them.
2 versions (or should I say generations, the iv 60$ one is perfectly fine for me, maybe I dont like carrying that size when I take the metro into the city perhaps + calls, those are my only issues with) of the overhead and the airpod equivalent.

I like that its a real refrigerator / vapor compression machine. Not that thermoelectric stuff which is meh in this application.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 1:08 pmFrivolous but I think I'll get quite a bit of use out of it.

The whole thing rang in at about $1300. We pack a big ass cooler of food everytime we drive to MX. It would be nice to bring the MEATZ and other perishables without worrying about water intrusion/spending an extra day somewhere on the way down. The use case is actually at least 15X year. Drinks would actually be in a conventional cooler.

There's a few things I won't buy in MX/can't find.max225 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 5:11 pmInteresting I figured groceries are significantly cheaper south of the borderDesertbreh wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 5:02 pm

1. Meat (Won't buy at most grocery stores, there are a few butcher shops)
2. Cheese that isn't white or tastes interesting (Mexicans don't do smoked gouda or even sharp cheddar)
3. Organic Milk.
4. 1/2 and 1/2
5. Other high end/luxuriousish foods that white people like

You left out that now you can grab growth hormone from a Mexican pharmacy and safely bring it refrigerated back across the border.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 5:16 pmThere's a few things I won't buy in MX/can't find.

The battery is pretty cheap compared to other premium lipo power boxes, like this one is a cool 1k.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 5:02 pmThe whole thing rang in at about $1300. This is about the same $$
https://www.amazon.com/Jackery-Explorer ... B0D7PPG25F
most off brand chinesium is comparable in price on amazon. Why not get the thing made to work with it for same price?
This stuff is comparable to the DIY system I did for my shed, but my shed battery has a bit more capacity at ~1400 ah
We dont normally eat cheese due to wife's allergies, but every one and a while we will load up on allergy meds and we will have a treat. We got this aged sharp cheddar from the Murray stand at the kroger that was one of the best things I've ever had to eat, like period.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 5:16 pmThere's a few things I won't buy in MX/can't find.

As it should be

but for real prescription drug gatekeeping pisses me off more the older I get.

Speaking of this, not having compressed air in the shop was becoming annoying. When you are used to working a certain way and having access to such things, its hard to pivot. Yes, most electric versions of air tools are better these days. I however like blowing shit clean, cleaning air filters, brapping things with the air hammer, etc. My inverter wouldnt run the big boi compressor (expected), so i needed something.golftdibrad1 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 7:36 am

I looked into 12v systems that guys use for air ride and on board air and the like, and they are $$ and it would be hacky. Ryobi also makes an 18v battery one for those in that system (of course they do) but also $$. The solution?
Math.
1000 watt inverter 2k peak, this means i have to get a compressor that draws less than 1kw/120v=8.3 amps full load. Ideally less.
so onto the spec sheets and I found this:
https://www.harborfreight.com/3-gallon- ... 57572.html
Draws 3.4 amps. Sweet. 3 gallons sucks as a capacity tho...however:
https://www.harborfreight.com/air-tools ... 65594.html
8 Gallons is better. Tied the 2 together with some misc. fittings and now i have solar power shop air, and a tank that can be easily moved. Plus, now that I have 8 freaking reusable filters to blow clean in the house every few months (the mini splits), its trivial matter to take the little dude up the hill to the house and knock that out easy. Spent under $100 bones

not sure I ever posted pics. I've since cleaned up the wiring a bit, added a power strip and a 12v socket. Lights run to a switch by the door, and a few others are on their own switch if i need to save power, but they use so little its never been an issue. New compressor setup at the bottom.

Very nice. I have one of these at home and in my shop/storage unit in IMX. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Makita-2-6- ... /202713487golftdibrad1 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 20, 2024 7:58 amSpeaking of this, not having compressed air in the shop was becoming annoying. Quiet. Portable. Compact.
As for your cheese comment above, being allergic to cheese is probably a blessing. Shit is tasty but its simply not good for you.
Yeah, I get it, pretty legit thing. I hate wasting food and anytime we travel by car, I'll load up shit like veggies we can snack on to bring with versus throwing away.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 5:02 pmThe whole thing rang in at about $1300.
