I'm sure they're fun. But. Cars are so isolated now, that a 1992 Camry would feel like it has a lot of tactile feedback.
I don't know man, lack of isolation is what is bothering you about your STI isn't it ? My m3 is not that "isolated" either. I think its just a load of crap to be honest. Modern cars are better than anything that was ever built in the past in every god damn way.
The steering feel, or complete lack of it, was why I didn't want the M235i. There's also no steering feel in a CX5 which I thought was boring despite everyone saying it's the best driver's car in its segment, whereas the Rav4 had decent feel and feedback making me like it more despite everyone telling me it's a turd.
I love the shifter, steering, brakes, etc on my car and that's what keeps me entertained in it. I find the suspension could be tuned better for low speed baghdad roads.

Does a 92 camry have steering feel? I mean some of the cars you're referencing are not exactly designed to have this.
M235i is a better bmw than pretty much anything in the past. The old racks had really shitty responsiveness where you needed a ton of input to turn at speed etc.
It is also faster/more refined and more efficient than the prior models.

Yes it's a cool car. But prepare the lube/sawdust.

Response (rack speed) and feedback/feel are two different things. Driving over something and feeling a twitch in the steering wheel is what I'm talking about. The constant feedback coming from the road to your fingertips. Even better if the weight of the steering changes as the tires gain/lose grip, because that's even more information to how they're sticking to the road.
The steering in the M235i felt like it responded quickly enough and the weight was fine, but there was zero road surface and chassis grip information making it's way back to me.

When I drove the Megane in Turkey, I felt like at times it is heavier than my GTI, due to the feedback it gives you. So I see Johnny's point on a 92 Camry. Compared to the new one, the 92 does definitely feel heavier, the new camry rental is light like I can turn it with my pinky like light, not sure if i'm stronger than I thought I was or
I remember watching matt farah's one take of the s550 mustang, electric steering is all about point and go.

Max doesn't understand the appeal of something?!
Stop the presses, we've got a new headline!
Put your money where your mouth is and get it if it is so great, same price as your car and way better apparently
to the max, and fits ND miata takeoff wheels for summers. $10k for a 22k mile Southern car that'll run forever on 87 and be mildly entertaining while doing it...

I like the idea of a maximum car that's also nearly new and needs no work - yet isn't garbage to drive like a CVT mirage. It's annoying to always leave the at home whenever we go anywhere because it costs so much more to drive than the other car. Zero temptation to mod the thing would also be nice for a change. Life before car modzzz was easier. Dunno if I could really pull it off but I think about it often.
There's a solid chance that we end up in some shitty place up north soon-ish with no garage, maybe even no driveway at all.

The iA might also be slow and ugly but at least it is made to be fun to drive.
