That's :fullretard:
As long as there's no substantive damage to any sensors or whatever, do what you suggested before, pocket the cash and replace just the grill yourself.

I don't think I can go this route anymore...

They were only going to pay me $1500... I wanted the initial $2500 the shop quoted but they would only pay the shop more... so I said fuck it ... due to the extra risk of more damage (I Guess that happened) I was going to let them do it. At 1150 for the part the margin for myself was too small... the car is pulled apart at the shop I can't really hit the stop button anymore.

I mean there is some damage behind the bumper for sure... the plastic pieces behind the bumper are cracked and the foam is cracked behind that. I am thinking of asking them not to remove and replace the bumper :doe: I don't see the point at all, and I am not sure they can match the paint etc... this paint is kind of a bitch.

Good god. What speed was this impact? 5mph?
What a shit design if a 5mph parking lot tap causes $9k in damage.
This crap is why my insurance premiums increased.

What was the speed? No fucking idea. It was a trailer hitch that punched through the grill while I was parked. I wasn't at the vehicle when it happened.

All the more reason to carry 100/500/100 liability at a minimum these days.

I upped mine to this recently due to the change in scenery from Altimas missing front bumpers in Philly to being surrounded by Range Rovers.

I thought about this and it’s actually not enough. This stupid bmw is 100k, if i rammed into another 30k car insurance would run out of money. Property damage is capped at 100k for most

Just got off the phone with the adjuster … who was there in person. She also thinks it’ll need a bumper. Wild …

I would have never changed it … the average car that gets piled over a curb every day is in far worse shape

On the one hand... $9K is outrageous on so many levels for a love tap. On the other, I don't blame the shop for wanting more money AND for wanting to make the thing perfect, If I OWNED a $100K car with under 20K miles on it and someone hit it, yeah, I'd want them making it perfect.

The fact that the Geico rep agrees proves that it isn't complete :bs:

Given the option, $9K check and just replace the grill for $1200 with a couple of cold ones wouldn't been a nice outcome, but can't win 'em all.

Just to update things here... Cadillac VISTIQ acquired on 6/29/2025.

Will update with more pics and impressions once more things settle down in a week or so. IX is still in the shop.... 2 weeks and counting. Ideally I want out of the IX by end of year, but given resale values that's unlikely to happen as my lease is underwater despite a hefty initial 22k discount off sticker. :mindblown:

EVs continue to depreciate far above where OEMs estimate during their leases.

This is an interesting chapter of my automotive Journey.
1. This is my first ever Cadillac
2. My second ever 6 seater
3. It is certainly not my first domestic, (I had 2 lincolns, 1 jeep, 1 crown vic and 2 teslas prior to this) so this is my 6th domestic.
4. This is however my FIRST EVER GM vehicle.
5. This is my 5th or 6th EV depending if you count the IX as one or two :triggered:

Interesting how brand agnostic my purchases have been although I very heavily skew towards BMW (8), of which I had (325ic, 335iM sport, E46 M3, F80M3, Mini, I4, IX 1, IX 2). The journey continues !

youd be sleeping on the hill after you run out of range in 3 passes waiting for that barge to charge.

I had one for 7 years. From 2005>2012 or so. The crazy part was, that it was also my DD and only vehicle for 2.
