They say it will be lighter! Although it's all kind of vapor ware at this point, rumors are it'll be a 2030 thing?

I couldn't tell the extent of the damage when I was looking up through a hole in the underbody cover.

Uh...yeah. It's a goner for sure. Getting the tie rods off was tough. Tried a cheap ball joint tool from Harbor Freight and got no where. The tie rod was too wide and not different enough in size from the knuckle. Ended up wailing on it with a 4 lb hammer for like an hour to get them out. Slight tear on one of the boots in the process. I'm just going to grab new outer tie rods because they're cheap. The tie rod isn't tapered, it might be a bit of a bear to get back attached correctly.

I got the oil done on mine saturday without KO'ing the rack. I got the jack in position and gave a couple pumps, put down some wheel chocks for safety, and let off the parking brake with car in neutral. Its pretty shocking how much forward it moved with such a short wheelbase.

Drove the miata 2 days in a row this week so far. Its just such a pleasant experience even outside of a good thrash. Seriously underrated car in the eye of the public at large.

Agreed. I've been driving mine a lot since the weather has been nice. It's actually more pleasant to commute in than the BRZ. Suspension is softer. It reminds me a lot of cruising around in my NC miata back when I was in my mid 20s. The car kind of bobs and weaves a bit with the road, but it feels so much more natural and pleasant than the harshness of the BRZ. More wind noise, much less road and tire noise. The rear diff in this thing is awesome. Hard on power on corner exit and the car will rotate. Way less pucker inducing at the limits compared to the S2000.golftdibrad1 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 03, 2025 7:11 am Drove the miata 2 days in a row this week so far. Turns out there's a cicada brood waking up from its 17 year slumber. Drove home yesterday with the top down... so loud. Had one hit the windshield and nearly blind me. I looked it up: I'm right on the edge of this brood near work. If I take the slightly longer, backroads path home (which I usually do in the Miata), I hit the boundary of it for like the first 10 miles. If I go the boring way, I pretty much avoid it completely. Might be driving the truck more to commute this year because of it.

Yea the Miata rides better on rough roads and gets better fuel mileage than the beemer.MrH42 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 03, 2025 10:50 amAgreed. I've been driving mine a lot since the weather has been nice. Cicadas went nuts here a year or two ago, it was wild. you could hear it inside our office, clearly.
Today will be a good miata day, work has kinda sucked. This job I've been put on to help a sister office is a disaster, and it looks like I might get removed again because *checks notes* I refuse to engineer seal engineering work that is incomplete / inadequate.

well shit
I'm ok
There is shockingly little damage. I'm going to consult a paint correction guy to potentially avoid
report and the PITA of dealing with body shops and matching this paint color. Like, the one light scratch is all you see in pics, and the other flaws dont even show up and you have to be looking with real critical eye to see.

She claims someone hit her and pushed her into me, but didnt stop. Big doubt.

After a quick wipe and dry.

Wow, sucks. Luckily it doesn't look bad? I would do everything to avoid a respray on that color if you can. They'll never get it to match right. My Machine Gray is the same situation. Looks cool as hell, but you're screwed if you need something painted.
This inspired me to finally pull the trigger and get a dash cam for the Miata. I already have front and rear ones installed in the truck. Thinking about getting 2, Garmin Mini 3's, but I have no idea how I'd mount one to the rear wind deflector.
Also, are you running the stock exhaust? I keep coming back to getting a Good-Win Racing exhaust for mine. I absolutely hate loud exhausts, but the OEM is way too quiet.

re: bold. Yes, exactly. I'm going to try and hit a place today, and have an appointment with an alternate tomorrow am. I'll be the good guy and give the person who ran into me the option to pay directly if it can be corrected vs making a claim.MrH42 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 20, 2025 9:25 am Wow, sucks. re: italics. Yes, and hardwire it from the mirror power. I went with an all in one radar/dash cam so no rear facing for me, but it get the job done with less clutter. I got the Max 360 FWIW
re: underline. yes stock. I quite like it. Its quiet enough puttering around, but shouty enough when you are ripping it. Combined with the intake noise, I like the way the car sounds. If I got anything else I'd get the active flyin miata stuff, but I'm also not spending a grand plus on that when I like it enough how it is. Personal preferences.

I think they changed the mirror power situation with the ND3 update. Everyone says it's a pain to get the plastic pieces apart without breaking them, so I'll probably just tuck the power cable behind the trim and a-pillar, down to the 12V port on the passenger side.

Detail shop was confident they could get it out, had a few minutes friday afternoon, and successfully removed all evidence of the damage for the princely sum of 180 bucks.
I called the lady that hit me and said I wouldn't file a claim if they just paid it, and they did. So thats all done.
The detailer is real nice place. I might drop the 2 gees for a 4 year ceramic and some PPF.
