Drove myself and little man to DC in the red rocket this weekend. Kept it at roughly 65-75 mph for the highway so faster than I usually drive. It’s about 2.5 hours of driving each way. Results were 48 mpg down there, 60 mpg for city trips, and 47 mpg back. The car is a highway animal. Better than the CRV because it’s quieter and much more responsive to changes in speed.

It did not do well with shitty DC urban roads. The wheels are too damn big. But once outside the city on smoother highways it just eats it up.

If you happen to drove on 16th st or georgia avenue i may could've possibly waved. Georgia avenue is a clusterfuck on its on and i drive on 16th st everyday. I hope you used waze, dem cameras.

Speaking of crv, my friend and i went to frederick md in their crv hybrid. He was getting probably 28 mpg and that car hasn't left the city for 2 months.

So the accord is good and all but the stereo is absolute shit. There are “8” speakers in it but it’s really 4 component speakers with tweeters. The rear ones are on the rear deck. The doors don’t get speakers back there. But the speakers themselves are tinny on the highs, muddy in the middle, overboosted on mid low, and have no low end at all. So the sound profile is just junk. I’ve tried playing with the 3-band equalizer and adjusting the fade and it’s all crap.

Some people on Reddit claim to have improved the sound quite dramatically with the stock Bose speakers from the Touring model plugged into the lower end system that I have. I think it would be about $350 to do that. Debating if I want to give it a go or not. Others claim that a bigger improvement can come from not just speakers but also adding a small 4 channel amp. Some of the new tiny amps have built in equalizer correcting line output conditioners. The one I found even has a microphone to calibrate itself and correct for distortion.

Think it’s worth doing any of this? It’s essentially the worst audio system I’ve ever experienced.

can you mount a kicker powered sub under the front seats? i.e is there enough space? I removed the $2 speakers in the tacoma and replaced them with $150 kickers and the results were mediocre to say the least. The tweeter replacement made a massive difference though... But in general replacing the speakers is a meh proposition and I certainly wouldn't get blows speakers for that. JBL/Kicker make great drop ins if you wanted to mess with it,

Yeah I think there’s space for a subwoofer under the front seat. I don’t know that I care too much for thumping bass. Just want more clear sound. Because this system just makes noise not music. I actually don’t like loud music.

The Blose speakers are all oem available from Honda and plug and play. So it’s just the easier option. But I guess I could get tweeters separately from crutchfield or something. The Blose door speakers aren’t overly expensive really. If they clean up the sound a bit then they’re probably worth doing.

I think any subs would require removal or disconnect of the active noise cancellation module. Amplified door speakers may not though.

I probably wouldn't swap over to the factory Bose but would instead consult crutchfield for an aftermarket solution. Bose speakers usually have different impedance than what the non Bose systems are designed to run. (2ohm for Bose vs 4ohm for nearly everything else). That person probably noticed the volume difference by dropping down to 2ohm impedance.

Aftermarket component sets will generally come with tuned crossovers, some are adjustable, and 3ohm impedance to split the difference. The quality of the components themselves might be better.

I'd set aside 30min to talk to a Crutchfield rep about something like this:

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_109CL64C/ ... b-64C.html

Did the Bose swap include new tweeters? If they did that's probably the easiest way to go however.

Yeah the Bose speakers would include A pillar tweeters and door woofers for the front, and the same on the rear deck on each side.

Further research says yeah a 3 ohm system would be ideal if driving it off the stock head unit. But also that it’s probably not worth any of this unless I install even a small amp like this one:
https://www.crutchfield.com/S-FFDTkDdIx ... sUQAvD_BwE

50 watt x4 channels I doubt I’d need or want anything else. This amp has a microphone that you put on the headrest and it uses AI to tune the integrated LOC. So it should correct the extreme drop off in bass that Honda programs into the head unit to allow them to run such garbage speakers.

Yes, I think the amp is probably worth doing and I’d also back Cale and Brad’s suggestion of going with something from Crutchfield versus Honda Blose (in the industry, the saying goes ‘No highs, no lows, must be Bose’). Crutchfield will have documentation and wiring harnesses and such to make it easy.

The $350 Bose speakers are $50 speakers where Honda is taking $200 margin and Bose $100. Crutchfield will sell you $150 speakers for $350 and they’re a lot better.

Solid speakers are pretty cheap to build, a fortune doesn’t have to be spent.

I thought the stereo in my rental EX was a lot better than base stereos of the past, but for a damn near top trim car like JP has they should have at least thrown the Bose in.

Curbed a wheel today leaving a parking lot. Feel pretty stupid and sad about it. Hopefully getting it repaired next week by Fledonfoot.

It's a sad feeling man. I curbed one of mine pretty badly at the airport. They have this shitty automated parking thing and it wasn't working at the kiosk I was at. Late at night after a delayed flight, I just goosed it in reverse and hit the curb... Fortunately a black sharpie works wonders on my wheels but should probably fix it for real one day.

Ultimately yeah. At least it’s not a machined face wheel so this is a lot simpler to fix.

Kinda really wishing I had bought a CUV instead. No car is perfect and this is working fine but like our CRV drives better and is immune to stuff like this.

So oddly enough my neighbor has an accord hybrid EXL same year as mine. His has the 17s. He street parks it since they don’t have a driveway. His 17s are absolutely trashed. I think it’s a problem with Honda wheel designs which have wheel poke, and the stock tires have no rim protection bumpers.

So many accords, civics, and Tesla model 3s have trashed wheels from curb rubs.
