Where is carmax ?
I am in a tax-advantaged state. Local :dillerman: with the MK8 was at $33,500 for the Honda and the 86 combined, so no sales tax on anything up to that price if I trade in both. Carmax was just under that.
Maybe send that quote to the Nissan :dillerman: and ask them to match it?

That R looks clean and fairly low miles as well :notbad:

Dude, a ciggy lighter and an actual CD slot? This is from a bygone era. :megusta:
Right ? I had a cd player in 2011 in my tdi. I didn’t know if it worked until 2016 when I let go of the car
:word: I remember thinking 'wow, cars still have CD players' when I bought my :mk6: in 2011 as well. Thinking about it now, should I want to play a CD, I'd have to bust out my old MacBook Pro from 10 years ago and hope it still works, no other player in the household.

I actually bought a couple of CDs to play in the Mini until I decide to pull the trigger on an upgrade in there.

The CD collection is one of those things I haven’t been willing to let go of and am still hoarding for some reason.

I dumped however many hundreds I had moving out of my first apartment in SD. Got blindsided by the people I was living with telling me they had already told our landlord we were going to continue our lease at the end of the month when that was about two weeks away. Didn’t have time to get all my shit in order in a mad rush to find a spot and pack and move so a big tote filled with them all just got throw in a dumpster. Was a bummer.

Goodness I hate car shopping.

I first reached out to the dealership in Grand Rapids about the Golf R a full week ago. Once I got an e-mail from their internet rep I sent over the information and photos about the 86 and...nothing. Asked if they'd received my e-mail...nothing. I finally sent the e-mail thread over to the used car manager and got another e-mail from the internet rep asking if I'd sent over info about the 86. I said I had but sent it again, then about a full day later I finally heard from an actual salesperson. Yay. It only took a full 7 days.

Of course their offer is pretty lowball, $1,500 lower than the local dealer I work with most often (with the MK8). They now also have a 2019 Golf R, but it's black and they're asking way too much for it.

Blah. It's so much easier to buy a new car than deal with hunting for some rare-ish enthusiast vehicle.

Fucking hell. :rage:
I've noticed a downturn in communication skills lately. Ironic how we're all more connected than ever yet people refuse to pick up a phone, return a call, text, email, etc.
People suck.

I could, but I'd lose the tax benefit. A trade value of $27,000 is worth the same as selling outright for $28,890.

I drove another MK7.5 Golf R yesterday. Dis juan:

https://www.falconevw.com/used/Volkswag ... 404499.htm

It's way overpriced, and black, but I have a good relationship with this dealer and figured maybe they'd be reasonable on price. Unfortunately it had a rugged odor inside - it didn't exactly smell like cigs or marijuana, but it wasn't nice. It was like a 3 or 4/10 but enough to be off-putting. My sales guy said they have a de-ionizer that could probably take care of it but I'm very :notsure: on that. The bolsters looked great, but the seat cushion felt pretty smashed, guessing the prior owner was a larger guy. Used car shopping is such a crap shoot and making a :dill: on a car 3, 4 hours away just to show up and have it be a pile seems inevitable if I try to go that route.

With the $500 VW partner certificate and the $2,000 in cash VW is now offering, that'd get me down to $2,500 under invoice on a MK8 at least? Blah.

Yea … 42k miles on an egg are a bit rough… unless the owner was a delicate flower. But usually they DD them, vape, tune, etc …

The average mk7.5 is already kinda old for a DD, like they won’t be perfect unless the above holds true.

You may want to wait for the 25 refresh and pull the trigger … they at least fix the infotainment lag

The thing was really clean, actually. Completely stock, no curb rash, no dings, no scratches, I couldn't even find a rock chip anywhere. It felt great, drove great, overall it was immaculate aside from that damn smell and a :fatty: imprint in the seat. Based on comps they're asking like $3k too much for it though.

I have no more interest in the 8.5 than I do the 8, especially for an R since those are keeping the haptic buttons on the wheel. Just sticking a larger tablet on the dash is not what the car needed.

Feels like that's the norm with these. :disappoint:

That one in Grand Rapids is still there, gonna chat with the wife about it again tonight and maybe take the gamble. I'm tired of looking.

It looks clean enough. 32k miles and the exhaust tips are clean. :notbad: I'm not sure the selling :dillerman: would put in that amount of effort.

Hopefully the :dillerman: is reasonable if you reach out.
