Its something about the combo of saltwater/constant rain and brutal sun + being loaded with tourists to the brim that just absolutely wrecks them. IMO it's a unique durability study for OEMs... just pull apart a 2 year old car from hawaii to see 10 years of real world use.

Nephew of a a few first gen immigrant on DFD, resident turk, and ex nazi egg lover now driving a middle class mom mobile.
Yep I’ve rented a few cars in Hawaii, a Prius, a Camaro, and an FRS. Weirdly the FRS was by far the least shitty despite being 10 years old.max225 wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 12:14 pmThe Camaro that I rented in Hawaii with 33k miles felt like it had 120k miles... I also had a GLC300 with 25k miles that felt like 125k, and quite a few others, the pattern is always the same. Unless they have under 5k miles they are absolutely trashed. These things are used HARD and put away wet. And Hawaii weather does a number on the vehicles also... the seats/paint are basically shot by year 2/3... its a pretty extreme use case scenario... That said... Armada is a hard pass from me as well.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 11:21 am I rented a Nissan Armada with 39K miles on it in Hawaii. "Tahoe Class Vehicle." It was.......a pile. Rear suspension sag big time, resulting in near tuck with 4 passengers and luggage. Handled vaguely even accounting for its barge status. Thirsty. Ugly. Some mediocre design components like a power rear hatch with four strut connections. Crappy throttle response and transmission function unless you hammered it. A Tahoe/Yukon is just A LOT better vehicle. I understand why these and their overpriced Infinity stablemate depreciate like a flume ride. Not a good truck.
Still, high mileage rental PLUS garbage car to begin with in the armada…

I believe it … I posted here about the fake Poorsche I rented as well. It was cockster that was advertised as a cockster S…
the seats were all cracked …
the steering wheel was sandpapered …
It was full of sand … like every frunk was sandy
The center console was completely busted and shriveled up
the paint was flat like … matte black …
The top was ripped …. But mechanically it was fine, (65k miles) other than being a slow pos that made me realize one should never buy a low rent Porsche.
I ended up returning the car within 24hrs and reporting that asshole to turo, who claimed that “parts are hard to get, and that he didn’t know it wasn’t an S”

You can't drive anywhere in Hawaii fast anyway. You could rent a Vespa.max225 wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2024 9:30 amI believe it … I posted here about the fake Poorsche I rented as well. It was cockster that was advertised as a cockster S…

I think Wrangler with doors/roof off is the proper Hawaii move. I enjoyed the FRS though.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2024 11:45 amYou can't drive anywhere in Hawaii fast anyway. You could rent a Vespa.max225 wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2024 9:30 am

2020>2023. The m3 that I had was worth 56k on residual but 49k in the market when I traded it in…. They went to 60-65 and are still 55ish. Which is insane
M2s (last gen’s) were above sticker for a bit used
1Ms are like 30-50% above sticker used

M cars in general aren't going to drop like a pedestrian ass 430i.
OK, I will amend my statement. M cars WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION will not depreciate much/rapidly.
