3 Cyl mini is still a decent amount of fun. I had a few as a rental... they also ride FAR better than mine. The interior quality in a MINI is worlds better over a Toyota/FCA product. However some of the newer hondas are quite decent.D Griff wrote: ↑Mon Apr 18, 2022 8:15 amMexicanYarisTK wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 12:45 am So recently I drove the Fiesta for the second time. The shuddering I said earlier was apparently been doing it since she got it brand new. She's either smooth or feels like it wheelhops (happens more often on stop and go traffic). Other than that, the car drives fine, no alignment issues, tracks straight, CEL is somehow gone for some reason. She's looking to trade in in a year to another small car (which what she's used to), she wants a fiat 500 or a Mini pooper (which would be dope ngl). She's also fun in tight parking garages

I sort of love the 500 but they're sort of crap cars realistically. I would probably go for a Corolla XSE hatch, Honda Shit, Hyundai Veloster for a small hatchback with less maintenance.
500/MINI are worth it if you're not going for one of the performance variants.
My main worry would be $2000 maintenance "surprises" since a mini essentially receives BMW parts and costs yet most cross shop them with a yaris as indicated here
I'd like to try one, haven't seen any MINIs on the 'Emerald Isle' this year. NA R56 is certainly still quite a bit of fun.max225 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 18, 2022 12:51 pm3 Cyl mini is still a decent amount of fun. I had a few as a rental... they also ride FAR better than mine. I think having a luxury brand in the small car segment is sadly tough in this country. People buying cars in that range likely don't do maintenance too much, which makes the problems you pointed out even worse.

Update on the fiesta. It turns out to be a more of a shitbox. Her alternator is shot, along with compressor belt, plus ac was not blowing cold. She wants to off this thing. It also overheated in traffic today. The dual clutch for ford aka the one ford lost in law suit, is well, a shitty transmission. She decided to off the car so we're going to appraise it this weekend. We are moving in together and she will be really close to her work and her barre studio, and as you know I give her the passenger princess treatment whenever we go somewhere.

What does “appraised “ mean? I’d guess about $2500MexicanYarisTK wrote: ↑Thu Apr 13, 2023 10:01 pm Update on the fiesta. It turns out to be a more of a shitbox. I mean it’s the cheapest model of a cheap brand. At 150k and 11 years, most of these little commuter cars are nearing end of life.MexicanYarisTK wrote: ↑Thu Apr 13, 2023 10:01 pm Update on the fiesta. It turns out to be a more of a shitbox. So his had an ongoing cooling issue and after a few overheating instances there loomed the threat of a warped head/cracked block and a guaranteed head gasket replacement onthe horizon... a $3k quote with no guarantee that the car would even run well after the gasket replacement. A used car dealer took it in as a trade for a used Elantra.
The whole thing was based on bad financial conditions that ultimately forced OP's hand. Used $12k car bought with some used car dealership loan, this is how most people live nowadays.

I mean if he has enough social IQ. He could have enlisted you for some advice on a matter where he is clearly inept. There are many many cars even todays “market” that cost nearly nothing to run in the 4 figure range. And they are certainly not made by Koreans or most domestics

I tried, found him a Cucktrek for $2k more but his budget was tight. This is why people are poor in the first place, IQ = $max225 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 11:33 amI mean if he has enough social IQ. He's a good dude, so we see eye to eye in other ways.
At first, I thought you meant for the person who bought it, you can’t really go wrong with any car for 700 fake dollars.max225 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 11:33 amI mean if he has enough social IQ. I think you really can … especially if and when it leaves you stranded and you’re stuck with repair and tow bills etc … 3 figure vehicles are a losing propositionD Griff wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 12:27 pmAt first, I thought you meant for the person who bought it, you can’t really go wrong with any car for 700 fake dollars.max225 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 11:33 am

If you get 90 days out of it then scrap for $200… that is some affordable motoring.
Obviously not a fun way to live, but poors gonna poor. You gotta do what you gotta do.
