My powah bill for last month was like $73
brag.
I think is the new with the cheap to heat huge house and reliable VWs.
Electricity thread.. Ask me questions if you'd like.

The total cost really doesn't tell anything.

I am curious though... what do you guys pay for gas? Were at $2.10 for tier 1 and 2.66 for tier 2. Which seems to kick in rather quick for someone who keeps their fking thermostat at 64F during the day and 60 at night in a sub2k home in Cali

I have no clue. The bill is gibberish and I don't actually see any charges for product...it's just "distribution charge" and "recovery charge"
I used 201 CCF (whatever that is) from 12/15 to 1/13 and was billed a total of 167.34. ~$30 of that is random taxes and fees.

1CCF is one hundred cubic feet of gas or 1.03 Therm so almost 1:1. We used 67 for the lovely cost of $143. Wow we're even at 3x the cost for thatDetroit wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 2:23 pmI have no clue. My gas bill is so negligible compared to electricity that I just pay it without inspection. March through October it's like 20 bucks. November through February it is like 70 bucks. Such desert, much sun. Wow.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 2:49 pm1CCF is one hundred cubic feet of gas or 1.03 Therm so almost 1:1. We used 67 for the lovely cost of $143. Yet still, I pay more than man in Chicago. Apparently that's the place for cheap energy.
But actually, it makes sense for gas. I'm in the middle of nowhere, in a neighborhood of 60 houses on 200 acres of land...not much density, so it takes a lot to get gas just to a few customers. Vs. a city where it doesn't take as much to reach a lot of customers. CA rates are high because CA.

But there's people out here that still run on propane. My house was originally built with a propane tank. THAT'S expensive having a truck come every few months to fill up the big propane tank.

Since this is now a gas thread would be nice to see your actual therms/ccfs usedwap wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 3:46 pmDetroit wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 3:23 pm
Our energy bills came in yesterday for the last month. Outside highs below freezing for 30 days, we heat the inside of the house to 68 (drop down to 64 while sleeping) and paid $300 total...$140 for electric and $160 for gas. Last year, gas was the cheaper of the two, but it's still reasonable with the house at 68.
My combined electric and gas bills for last month were almost exactly the same: $299.42. Granted, our December was probably not as cold as yours, though we certainly had several days of below freezing temps, but our is a 215 year old 2900 sq ft balloon construction wood frame house with zero insulation in the walls and a 29 year old gas boiler. We keep the temp at 71F during the day and 64 over night. And our hot water heater, 6 burner/dual oven stove, and fireplace in our party room are all gas fired. We also have a gas-heated garage but didn't turn it on until this month.
Being the same $$ as yours with much more sq ft, minimal insulation (just in the attic), old, original windows with drafty storm windows, and zero heat-generating wizardry like you have, that's pretty fucking IMO.

Last month's gas bill for us was $52.84 for 24 therms. That includes $2.38 for taxes and fees. SDG&E charges for the Gas Service, and then an additional Gas Energy charge. Gas service for the first 22 days (17 therms) was $1.38238/therm, then there was a rate increase to $1.43201/therm for the remaining 10 days (7 therms). Gas energy charge was billed at $.65194/therms and $.83668/therms respectively.
We don't have heat in our house But standard gas water heater with me showering 2x most days, and cooking at least once every day, plus Michelle's showers and cooking...

It was a requirement for us, 0/7 want to deal with propane.wap wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 4:25 pmI'm that you even have gas service where you live.Detroit wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 3:19 pm

Which pushes us into a area since the more affordable areas are still propane. I bet our gas costs are higher than other regions as a result. I don't have any old bills from out Detroit house to compare.

Totally agree and it's so worth it to have gas over propane.Detroit wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 5:38 pmIt was a requirement for us, 0/7 want to deal with propane.

Yeah, almost half of your rate.. I'll post our electric bill for you to check out. I don't fully understand how to read it due to the solar that the house has.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 6:11 pmInteresting even yours is cheaper... by not an insignificant amount...SAWCE wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 5:31 pm Last month's gas bill for us was $52.84 for 24 therms. Interestingly when I bought the gas grill for the place in Mexico I had it fitted with LP nipples...............only to find that the entire 6 tower condo complex is fueled by huge propane tanks. No muni gas to the project.Detroit wrote: ↑Wed Jan 19, 2022 5:38 pmIt was a requirement for us, 0/7 want to deal with propane.
