It was so unwieldy that I decided that I would just pull everything back apart, spread it out in a loose, flat coil and let the next days morning sun (hopefully) soften it a little

The next day (today) turned out to be overcast. So much for sun-kissed softening.

But sleeping on it did give me the insight to stop trying to fight with the inate coiling of the tubing.

I also realized that I had to work my way out not in.

I ended up having to cut more holes than I wanted to because the tubing was kinking when I tried to force it to bend too dramatically.

I had to rotate the entirety of the tubing as I coiled it onto the board in order to relieve the tension that was making it hard to position. Once I figured this out it went quick.



I was using a combination of the the duct hanger strapping and nails to hold things in places as I coiled larger and larger.



Then once I got it all coiled I used some zip ties to hold things together and I cut full sized pieces of the strapping to hold the entire coiled sections together. I had to extend the side of the board just a bit using scrap wood. I probably could have gotten away with just ziptieing the coiled hose together but it was difficult to visualize whether that would work so i just tacked on a piece of 2 x 4 and a small section if 1 x 6 decking I had lying around.



It started to rain as I was finishing (Because of course it did) and I had to high tail it to put all my tools away.



It was just a shower...so when it ended I removed all the tacked in nails and hooked up to my existing "pool store heater" and my immersible pump



The wind will not cooperate enough to make this its final position, I will likely lay the new White Trash Solar Array down with just a slight angle towards the southern sky. I might affix the plastic pool store heater to the chair somehow as the canvas is shot on it anyway. I will also likely paint the whole array a flat black in order to soak up as much heat energy as possible.

I am aware that this is a feeble display compared to some of more talented members but this is how a person with a limited skill set spent his saturday.

WIll it work? Supposed to be sunny tomorrow so, time will tell. I suspect that I am going to have to regulate flow somehow to slow it down enough to let the heat transfer to the water.

I decided against the Shade Sail. Steel posts that are up to what-I-want standards are $300 a pop..... fuck that.

I looked at a Cantilever Umbrella



But I don't think it would stand up to the wind that we get....

Wound up picking up a clearance Gazebo from Lowes today..... If it last me a few years and we like it, I will upgrade to a model.



They knocked another $50 off so I pulled the trigger

But not too bad to build



The hard part is done.... Next is just the upper supports and the canvas roof, sides and the mosquito netting.... Ran out of light but will complete tomorrow...

Finished it up today.... a few of the holes were off center on the crossmembers and the bolt striped the threaded holes. I had to drill pilot holes and ram some sheet metal screws in there. Over all fitment was











All in all, I got the same shade coverage as the shade sail I had been contemplating ... for a few hundo less. The canvas walls and mosquito netting are a bonus as is the hook for hanging a central light or a fan.

Now to see how it manages the substantial gusts we get rolling in and over the cornfield that abuts my property.




Oh another Bonus.....It doubes as a orgy hut .....





..... its not boat porn but it will have to suffice....

Thanks.... yeah I'm pretty pleased with it for the money. If it works out for a few years, I will likely splurge for a more substantial set up with a solid roof and better aesthetics..... They go for anywhere from $1600-$5000

First ever shitter swap

I wanted a one-piece, pressure assisted unit, but they were impossible to get locally in my timeframe....

Ended up with a dealer sourced (fuck the home Improvement Borg) Kohler Cimarron in Biscuit (replacing contractor grade basic bitch white)







The oscillating tool that my brother gave me was indispensable in saving me from hacksawing the bolts nd likely buggering the finish on the bowl.

Murphy did show up (he ALWAYS DOES when I do projects) but it was relatively minor. I.e. the oscillation generated so much heat that the plastic washer (that the bolt caps snap on to) melted..... thankfully there was enough left to still get the cap on....
