This situation kind of puts a tarnish on the whole "we have the best healthcare system in the world because it's privatized" schtick.[user not found] wrote: ↑Tue Mar 17, 2020 7:25 pmThere's many that have had it and didn't know, and then there's many that have it and can't even get tested due to test availability or the reluctance of insurance companies to approve testing.

Neither answer is good but look at the .gov response to the virus. You really want them in charge of healthcare?Huckleberry wrote:This situation kind of puts a tarnish on the whole "we have the best healthcare system in the world because it's privatized" schtick.[user not found] wrote: ↑Tue Mar 17, 2020 7:25 pm There's many that have had it and didn't know, and then there's many that have it and can't even get tested due to test availability or the reluctance of insurance companies to approve testing.

I'm saying that this country's inability to get its shit together when just about every other country in the world was able to should be a telling sign that our healthcare system is far from the best and is in need of an overhaul. Whether that be privatized, universal, or a mixture of the two is a debate for another time, but I think this pandemic has brought to light some glaring faults in a system that politicians like to tout as being the best. It's certainly one of the most expensive healthcare systems in the world, and I think this is one of those times where we aren't necessarily getting what we have paid for.Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 8:04 amNeither answer is good but look at the .gov response to the virus. The government's response has been horrendous, but keep in mind of who is leading the circus. The man is a caricature of right wing extremism and has actively tried to do things such as cut CDC funding.
I mean, I just want to hear from all the private sector doctors. You are essentially rallying around their job and profession and decreeing it a human right. There are only a sprinkling of actual interviews with doctors in general about what direction they want to see their industry go.
I wouldnt want the government demanding engineering services as a human right and becoming the middle man on literally everything.
I really do listen to boths sides of this. We do have high levels of care and research for those that can afford it. We have elites fly to specialized medical clinics all the time. AND we still float a shit ton of poors on the coat tails on a flawed system as well. This has thrown all of our cost into a semi controlled tailspin.
Its like everyone forgot where most hospitals formed from. Religious charities trying to help people. To improve research and progress, things became better funded and privatized for profit. And then the .gov came to the table as the largest customer and fucked everything up. Even in my lifetime of 30+ years, Ive watched all the charity hospitals close shop.
