No doubt.[user not found] wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 2:51 pmSure, but several billion people are going to be left behind before it does.
The people are great, but as a place it's way behind where you probably think it is.
I have no illusions. We have good friends who are Indian and go back every year to visit family. I hear stories She is a pediatrician and he is some chemist guy. They're fascinating to talk to. Very stimulating intellectual conversations always ensue after dinner.

Of course. Conditions for many are over there. No doubt. Those pro-business (anti-environment/public health) policies are the price they (and Jhina) are paying to catch up with the West economically. It sucks, but they're determined that it is worth it. And they've made tremendous strides, and will continue to. They're smart people and should not be underestimated. Healthcare is actually guaranteed in their constitution. We can't even say that.Thedude wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 2:51 pmAnd IT pros, Dentists, and Bollywood actors, etc... not sure what your'e getting at tho...troyguitar wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 2:43 pm

@WAP- this was from this year:
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/01/busi ... -care.html
The half a billion people this article talks about covering with "free healthcare" are currently not covered.
"“The biggest disease burden sits on the bottom 500 million people. They don’t have access to diagnosis. If they get diagnosed, they don’t have a way to get treatment,” Dr. Bakshi said.
Some public health experts noted that the government’s proposals do little to prevent poor health in the first place. India is plagued by increasing levels of water and air pollution, some of it worsened by the current government’s pro-business policies. Malnutrition, poor sanitation and lack of proper housing also remain major problems."
Also, many other problems on scale many orders of magnitude larger than what we see in US.

Dat ketchup weather, doe.MexicanYarisTK wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 3:15 pmWeather for starters. I remember when i was in germany, this lady at a restaurant asked for ketchup for her omelet, the server went. " no no not good", like if its wrong or not.
To be fair I was talking about the nations health and education systems.... not individual Doctor's or teachers. India is absolutely not a model for anyone to follow in those regards.wap wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 5:21 pmI was gonna say And scientists, too.troyguitar wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 2:43 pm

I agree. The entire point was success is an individual thing. Because the only objective reason to exist is to procreate and no one actually measures success by that.CorvetteWaxer wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 5:00 pmToo many people are doing it too much.
There is zero need for a family making $13,000 a year to have 9 children.
Thanks, religion.

The poorest here wouldn't use contraception even if they knew all about it and were paid to use it. Most of them are Catholic.

Having a billion poor people is definitely a bad idea. Why don't they just make everyone rich?

at poor people have no other hobbies.. you throw out some ridiculous blanket statements sometimes.razr390 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 5:04 pmWell, poorer people won’t be educated on safe sex or contraceptives. They also have no other “hobbies or pleasures” since they’re poor, so sex is a pretty good alternative.CorvetteWaxer wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 5:00 pm

That's our current thought. Maybe know we are helping somewhat but not telling them we will help totally.
Also, don't bail them out of every stupid little thing they get into - nothing worse than kids who couldn't own their mistakes in college and called home crying to mommy and daddy about being temporarily banned from university facilities due to breaking rules repeatedly.
Death will teach him to listen to me

Couple of near-death experiences never hurt anyone..
they actually probably hurt a lot of people really bad, but that's not the point I'm trying to make dammit!
You mentioned that you have worked with some of the same people for 25 years. Same company?CorvetteWaxer wrote: ↑Wed Aug 15, 2018 5:06 pmThe poorest here wouldn't use contraception even if they knew all about it and were paid to use it. Most of them are Catholic.
