So far I need new hubcentric rings. And at least one lug hole is cross threaded.

Also spotted this pretty valve cover leak.

That seems to be par for course on the TSI engines. I always cleaned it and moved on.

That's what I'm going to do. And monitor the seepage. So far I don't need to refill any oil between 5k oil changes.

Damn. How many miles are on the car? Mine was leaking from the back at 55k.

Am I the only sucker who got this fixed? :( This GTI will be with me forever...

Just passed over 65k. About 40k of it tuned. With a hell of a lot of beating on the car.

I will likely get this fixed once I get the time.

Why wouldn't they allow us to have modular valve covers? That's so much for something that should be $75

Because German. That $2.50 per car cost was taken up by the little chrome looking trim pieces on the AC vents in our superior interiors.

It was pretty much all labor too. Parts were $176.95 and labor was $710.95. What's strange is the sealant was the most expensive part at $97. That seems insane to me. That's what ECS lists it at too but it's on sale now for the low price of $71.

Reseal Camshaft girdle and replace vac pump seal, upper timing cover seal, breather valve seal.

That's so much for what should just be a valve cover gasket.

I wonder if I could manage it myself. I'll have to look the job up.

That is so fucking  I can't even. For a leaking valve cover gasket. I changed the one on my last car on the street in Philly with :mahtroy: drinking a 40 on the stoop next to me. IIRC it was 16 torx bolts, pull the cover off, clean the surface, place new gasket in the recess, replace cover and 16 bolts. It took like an hour tops since I used a torque wrench.

I get 5k oil changes done too and when I discovered my oil pan leak I was right at the minimum line on the dipstick. So It would seem my leak was pretty fast and furious.

7 hrs of technician labor, breh. You probably have to remove quite a bit from the engine to remove the VC and upper cam cover. PCV, coils, coil harness, at a minimum and I have no clue what else from the top. Engine mount bisects the side. So good luck with that.

The engine mount is in the way for the valve cover? What the fuck Volkswagen.

I quit. I'm selling the car and buying an old Honda. All I need are a billion 10mm wrenches.

That's what it seems like. I'm no mechanic so there's no way I was going to attempt a job like that. Here's a pic of the damage.

Yeah I guess it's not a simple old car. These new fancy vehicles are too hard to work on.

Pretty sure an old Crx is still going to need work. Especially after I modify it.

I still haven't driven one but I finally rode in a lightly prepared STS class CRX a month or so ago and it was pretty awesome. Hard to beat a 1900 lb car.
