Yuh.
We got lucky, honestly. My Dad was in a really bad accident back in February that he was pretty lucky to survive. Following that, my 96 year old grandmother, his mother, passed in March. He was the main caretaker for her and I loved her but it was a case of you have to love your family, but not necessarily like them all the time. I was not blessed with a sweet old kind grandmother. She was mean, and terribly vocally racist.
And to make a long and complicated story short, my mother, my Dad’s ex wife of over 15 years now, insisted on maintaining a relationship with her ex-mother in law to keep a thumb on my Dad and as manipulation.
So with my grandmother passing, he’s pretty free for the first time in ...forever?
His current wife is a total sugar mama and with their newly found flexibility, he offered to take Zilch and I with the two of them and all we needed to cover was airfare.
And even better, my brother whom I don’t get along with, was not invited with his two children. They’re going to take them to Disney on a separate trip.
Viking cruises are no kids allowed.
Should be peak tulip season. In for castles and no sea sickness.

Glad it's working out for your dad and you. Should be a great time. Amsterdam is a fun city. They have Indonesian restaurants there and an Van Gogh museum, a really interesting Resistance museum, and you can actually go in and tour Rembrandt's house, which was

So I'm going on a vacation to Paris later in the summer which means I need a power adapter. I'm only taking my phone and tablet over. Should I use an adapter with just 2 USB's or should I go for the one with 2 sockets? Will quick charge work for my phone over there when just charging over USB?
Anyone have a good one they've used?

Flying to SFO tomorrow morning, but won't really do/see much or have time to kick used M3 tarz most likely... going to see wife's friends in San Jose.
I was half tempted to rent a Poorsche on Turo and just drive around by myself all weekend while they talked about old school stuff.

The gf and I just went to Ireland, Switzerland, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Switzerland was both of our favorites, it's epic. Everything was awesome though, with Paris both of our least favorite, kind of a regular, dirty big city.

Check on your devices that theyre compatible with 220 first.Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 8:56 pm So I'm going on a vacation to Paris later in the summer which means I need a power adapter. Then buy the cheapest adapter you can find.
Buy two of them.
I have a handful of really cheap adapters that I use when deployed. They are the cheapest things I could buy but cannot find a link. I have never had one fail. But I always take a spare.
Almost all devices are 220 compatible now. But I would check to verify.

My devices are 220 compatible so I just bought a six pack of adapters from Amazon for like $9 or something. Been using them just fine for several years now with zero issues in any country I've been to.

My experience with the adapters with multiple functions is sub par. Just get the most simple one you can find. Those all country 214824 different selections are a pain.
Doing NYC for pleasure in December with a girlfriend. Including some touristy shit. (See Rockefeller, 9/11 monuments, a show, etc.) I could use some hotel recommendations. Naturally, we are looking to be as close/in Manhattan as possible but under $250 a night would be ideal.

Check out the Yotel on 9th Ave. It's super modern and in the middle of everything. It used to be under $250, may have gone though, I haven't stayed in the city in a while, always stay in Brooklyn or NJ these days when I have to go to NYC.Sno wrote: ↑Thu Jun 07, 2018 7:18 am Doing NYC for pleasure in December with a girlfriend. That was part of it, we stayed near Gare de Lyon which wasn't that nice of an area.... and don't get me wrong, it was fun. It was really cool to see the famous stufflike Notre Dame, Louvre, Eiffel Tower... but compared to a place like Lucerne, Brugge, Amsterdam? It doesn't come anywhere close. It was the only city where we were constantly bothered by guys selling useless nonsense, homeless all over, trash around. The river dinner cruise thing was wonderful though.
I'd categorize Paris with New York. It's one of those must see in your lifetime places, but once you get it out of the way, there's no reason to go back often. Chicago, for example is a place that I would much rather spend a weekend than NYC, having been to both many times. But if you were on your last year on this planet, had never been to either, and only had time for one, go to New York.
This one does keep popping up in my searches. Have you stayed at it or one personally? It seems like it could be awesome or awful.D Griff wrote: ↑Thu Jun 07, 2018 7:36 amCheck out the Yotel on 9th Ave. It's super modern and in the middle of everything. Yes, multiple times. I like it.
The bar is really cool. It's a super modern vibe. If you're OK with a tiny room, it's great, very innovative use of space. The room really is tiny though.
These look good. 3 pack for $10. I assume my devices are 220 compatible. They're relatively new.Barnes93cb wrote:Take the word of FAP. A true world traveler.

I'm speaking just of Europe, I should point out. And for that awesome place you really only need 2 adapters. One with the 2 round prongs for the continent and the bigger, clunkier 3 squared off prongs for the UK.Barnes93cb wrote: ↑Thu Jun 07, 2018 1:29 amTake the word of FAP. A true world traveler.
