I'm with you, doe...the really needs to explain what failed exactly. We're merely speculating. The story of the "camshaft just cracked" is full

Yea that's exactly what I am trying to get at. I am not trying to argue with ppl on here on what really happened. We simply don't have enough information and don't know. The scary part is even with "minor" repairs the total is already $6600... the once they pull that shit back together and it has bent valves... i mean it fucking must it was banging like crazy and the camshaft was obviously just a limp noodle in there.... and it is an INTERFERENCE MOTOR THAT WAS DRIVEN on the tow truck, to take the video etc.
no quote was provided for any of those parts.
given the extent of the damage that that caused, I think it needs a rebuilt/new engine or a junkyard motor, there is no "fixing" this in piecemeal it just makes absolutely no fucking sense. Considering the piecemeal is already $6600

The whole point of this shitshow, though, was to escalate this to VW for goodwill consideration given it was out of warranty anyway at the time of failure. It was obvious from step one that the dealer would do nothing for him.
Given that VWoA is offering no assistance, Crang is on the right path with lighting up the GM of the dealership as a last stand. With no success there, the next step is to fix it cheap and sell it.

Right but we're past this now... even if the GM agrees to HELP HIM OUT. They will in no way shape or form cover the whole amount... maybe give him 50% or 25% off the labor or parts... I am trying to have this dude avoid going into the rabbit hole of actually fixing the car there.fledonfoot wrote: ↑Tue Apr 03, 2018 3:52 pm The whole point of this shitshow, though, was to escalate this to VW for goodwill consideration given it was out of warranty anyway at the time of failure. There is no "cheap" option here... the engine is fucked. And "cheap" starts at 4k

Could be a $15k repair as they dig into it and keep replacing what's wrong. It's frustrating that they won't root cause it and won't dig deeper to find other stuff wrong. Cylinders should be scoped at a minimum, but they won't without paying more because they can just charge more later when it's not fixed.

I 100% guarantee you this is NOT the taken by or most other car owners which treat the car like a “burden” and an “appliance”. Even if I am not mechanically inclined, I take the time to show my interest in what they are doing for my own sake and because I want to know what’s happening to my car.Davestr wrote: ↑Tue Apr 03, 2018 3:42 pmSuperb attitude. When your car is under warranty, it is my job to fix your car as cheaply as possible for the manufacturer. It's my livelihood to turn that 10-15 minutes spent with a customer into a good relationship. It's a two way street. I remember customers that engage with me... even if it's cheating and leaving notes for myself in the future on their file in the DMS.
If an advisor doesn't give you enough time, ask for it. If (s)he won't offer up your time, ask for someone that will. If you have an issue with your car, it usually takes more than 5 minutes to fully document the concern, generate an RO and get everything started up.
I have made incredible friends doing this and its something I do naturally. If you are not engaging in this way you are missing out. I thank everyone I meet, as I imagine they are busy doing what needs to be done and Im happy they take good care of my machine!

Unfortunately the service adviser I used to work with was no longer there. I had to choose one I never worked with before. He seemed pretty professional from me speaking to him. I made sure I understood what he was talking about the first time, asked a bunch of questions, shook his hand when I left, and was very polite. He even worked with me and researched tire pricing when I was purchasing the new tires.
This is just a fuck up. Whether it's his fault, Jack Daniels, or whoever...it was negligence on the dealership, not whether or not I had a relationship with the adviser.

They’ll nickel and dime it to death.
$6k to replace the cams and bs.
Still broken
$5k to replace the head
Still broken
$4k to replace the pistons
Etc, etc, etc.
I treat my car like a burden or an appliance? What are you talking about dude? I took care of my baby. Always have. Regardless of where I took it, whenever there was an issue or if it required maintenance, I always took care of it immediately. I've always asked questions when I'm there...sometimes having group discussions with other advisers or people standing behind the counter.razr390 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 03, 2018 4:02 pmI 100% guarantee you this is NOT the taken by or most other car owners which treat the car like a “burden” and an “appliance”. Not a bad idea, try and sell it to them and just walk away from it. Will take it up the butt on that but at least it's just fucking overwith.
IDK. I'd replace the camshaft and hobble it to carmax, point out the new tires, get a check and good riddance.

Fair market - $6600 repairs - $1000 condition adjustment - $500 reconditioning fee - $2k JD courtesy fee[user not found] wrote: ↑Tue Apr 03, 2018 4:37 pmI'd give him fair market value minus the cost of repairs. Car is relatively low mileage, probably decent physical shape, and only needs some love in the shop.
I'll bet that JD would just offer $500 doe.
Shit he'd end up paying THEM to take the car

If that’s the case then I retract my statement. You do come off as a regarding interactions with others sometimes and you do give off a careless vibe.nuggstein wrote: ↑Tue Apr 03, 2018 4:25 pmI treat my car like a burden or an appliance?
