I have been harboring the dream of taking up sailing lately. I have experience with small crafts as a teen and did a 1.5 week excursion to the Keys circa 2002 iirc. 50' twin mast (Cutter? iirc) would have to review photos. Sailed there on wind, motored back to FL due to time. I'm not a pro but am half way dangerous on smaller crafts. I've been listening to a ton of vlogs and reading about larger boats the past few weeks. Its like picking at a scab and now its festered in to me thinking often about sailing. I've come across a few deals on smaller pleasure power boats but never could commit to that life. A sail boat would stay in a marina ideally.
This idea of leaving it all grows stronger. This idea of adventure weather by road or sea has a solid rooting in me know. Mix all these different van life, tiny house, and boat life: Each has a strong appeal to me.
I am equally torn in that I love doing car shit. Any of the above life styles isn't conducive to car shit.
I can't say Im ever going to act on it but I'd love to have a sub 30' sailboat to tinker around on and quasi fix up. I like the idea better than a van to travel on road. The other appeal to boat life is leaving the US shore all together. At this stage in life, I'd prefer to take the head in sand approach to watching this country become more polarizing. Ideally, I could find a way to take about 1 month off work and head west and roadtrip some things Ive yet to see, before committing any more thought to #boatlife
Im taking a weekend trip to AL/FL gulf area Friday. Will go look around at boats and talk to a few boat people. Will also ponder my ideas more with my ass in the sand.
Until then, I leave you DFD folks with the stereotype of stereotypes of us airboaters:
