Absolutely. I remember being raised Catholic. The amount of I dealt with as a young boy is looking back on it.troyguitar wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2018 7:43 pmWhere are you having trouble? Religion teaches kids that if you believe something to be true, then it is true.Calvinball wrote:

I remember working with a former Mormon and he explained that to me. Pretty tbh.SAWCE wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2018 7:43 pmI guess that’s where I have a hard time agree with you. Mormons are taught to pray about everything we’re taught and try to decide for ourselves if we believe it and to develop our own testimony and faith, not just accept everything taught to us as truth. So my religious experience is very different than what you’ve encountered or heard.troyguitar wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2018 7:40 pm Feelings being taught to be equivalent to is the biggest problem here, and it comes directly from religion. It ought to be a crime to teach kids that shit.
Most mainstream Christian denominations aren't like that.

I can’t. But that’s not the argument. Until he is disproved, I don’t feel wrong for believing in him. The day he is disproved I’ll come out and say I was an idiot and that I now believe in evolution

While I don’t agree with all of their teachings, and a lot of the people are fucked up, I feel fortunate to have grown up in that religion out of all them.Detroit wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2018 7:49 pmI remember working with a former Mormon and he explained that to me. Minor changes for survival, sure, but you have facts showing that we evolved from monkeys who evolved from pond scum? Let’s see them.

More than those supporting the bearded man in the sky idea that is pounded into the heads of millions of kids, crushing the hopes of them thinking about anything objectively.SAWCE wrote:Minor changes for survival, sure, but you have facts showing that we evolved from monkeys who evolved from pond scum? You really think it's more likely that died for your sins and that you will live eternally on a higher plane of existence than that we have one life here, on this rock, where we evolved over the millennia despite not quite working out every detail of the process?

IDK, I'd be willing to bet it's a bit more than 2. The Baker rifle was around 2 and it was notoriously difficult to load quickly.Big Brain Bradley wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2018 6:35 pmmore like 2.

I believe they’re equally like. The both sound ridiculous when you first hear them, but when I sit and think and pray about what I really believe, the feeling that I get is that we were created by a god and not by two stars colliding.

Kids are fucking terrible. (not yours, but in general).KYGTIGuy wrote: ↑Mon Feb 19, 2018 7:29 pmStaff came up to the parents standing around the pit and asked them to remove their kids. They then pointed out wet footprints coming from out of the pit. A mom next to me grabbed her kid and was like "yeah, he's wet" as in her been sitting in something.
They emptied the pit and cleaned it and added new balls.

The concept of faith, and someone having it, doesn’t mean their brain is now incapable of critical rational thought.troyguitar wrote:Where are you having trouble? I was raised Christian Orthodox. I won't say I am a full believer, but I am not Atheist either. I would say I am Agnostic.

Evolution is a theory. In science, a theory is not a definite fact because it is still being composed in dynamic fashion. The Theory of Evolution CAN be used as evidence to support evolution itself and the belief that there is no "God" but it cannot disprove God yet because it has not been proven to disprove God, yet.

I think my friend made this point when I visited him in NYC. Really broadened my mind in that regard. Hard to imagine we literally evolved from bacteria in water.
