For those following the TRUK TRUK TRUK thread, I have been looking for a new TRUK for a while. After considering many options, I found a 2000 Dakota on Craiglist. It looked good, I worked out a with the and I went and looked at it today.
I introduce to DFD, BIG GREEN
Stats:
2000 Dodge Dakota Sport
Quad Cab
5-Speed Manual
2WD
This is where things get a little more interesting. This fucker has every option available, it's some serious truk. I even found the window sticker in the owner's manual so you can see the wax laid out before thine eyes.
I did the math, that translates to $36,500 in today's $.
It has *ahem*
9.25" Rear end w/ 3.55 gears and a limited slip diff.
Tow package, which includes a power steering cooler.
Infinity sound system, with steering wheel buttons for the radio controls.
Cruise Control, power EVERYTHING, even the driver's seat.
3" Body lift (I'm indifferent on this one, but w/e)
Literally, brand fuck new tars.
A hitch with trailer light connector, I think it's a Class IV, I need to investigate further.
Auto dimming rear view mirror.
And a brush guard with deer whistles.
The good:
All the options listed above work, interior is clean, no rattles, it's like a new truk.
Engine runs well, transmission shifts well.
Very few creaks overall, it's great for a 17 year old truk.
The bad:
There was some play in the steering, I fixed it by tightening up an extension knuckle.
The shifter bushing is worn, feels like a stick in a bowl of mud. Searching for gears is a little vauge.
That's about it for now, I might find more as time goes on.
I talked them down to $8,100 after I discovered the issues, so that was a fair price, not great, and above NADA, but it's a really nice truck, definitely a rare bird.
I got to get that shifter fixed, but other than that, basic maintenance seems to be all it needs.
So there you go DFD.
Melon, the most on DFD.

Did you tow your old truck while it towed the C5 while it towed the bikes?

Must be a really mild body lift....Can barely tell. I'd leave it alone too.
This truck is a score. Price be damned, its a good find IMO. True status.

That's an awesome truck dude. Legit
All it's missing is 4x4 but that's not needed down where you're at, and honestly not even needed up north as much as people like to think it is. Is the differential an LSD or an anti-spin (auto locker)? Either way, it should be able to handle mild off roading without a problem.
I dig it!!

Yup main thing is the rear locker and the extra clearance both of which he got. 2wd is fine for most occasions especially without snow and mudJohnny_P wrote: ↑Sun Apr 09, 2017 11:41 am That's an awesome truck dude. Legit

Got the shifter "fixed" it's tight now, and gears are easy to find. When they did the body lift, they welded in a 3" riser section to the shift arm, now, due to this, the shifter hits the dash in 1, 3 and 5. I'll need to get it apart again, cut out about 1.5" and weld it back up.

Can't you just bend it to a slightly more aggressive level?Melon wrote: ↑Sun Apr 09, 2017 2:09 pm Got the shifter "fixed" it's tight now, and gears are easy to find. That's a possibility, doing some digging, it seems this is common issue people have after a body lift, I just don't have a vise to be able to bend it.max225 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 09, 2017 2:15 pmCan't you just bend it to a slightly more aggressive level?Melon wrote: ↑Sun Apr 09, 2017 2:09 pm Got the shifter "fixed" it's tight now, and gears are easy to find.
