The E550 comes with the air suspension which would need to get replaced with something durable, but the engine is strong like bull. This car has led a charmed life it tempts me.

I noticed that. But I figured not worth pointing out. These things are widely available and you can essentially pick one up for pennys on the dollar at any point in time.
There is an interesting article that did some research around the cars driven by millionaires. And E class came out on top. It’s a bit dated now (pre Tesla) but it goes to show you why they are generally in great shape in the secondary market.
And as per my friend and the average 3rd 4th and 10th owner pound them into pick and pull

My coworker got a W211 E550 with 80k miles, one owner for $8500 last summer. He totaled it 3 months later. SAD!Desertbreh wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 3:33 pm In E Class News:

I always think about how impossible it seems that it was once a new car. Someone took it home from the dealer all excited. Showed their friends and family with pride. Took decent care of it for at least a few months. From being on a pedestal to one tire in the junkyard, it's sad to think about how some cars live. Ultimately, cars are consumable goods...max225 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 1:46 pm Do you ever see a for sale ad, and then you wonder... happened here. Like how do you get to this point ?! Right...I was only semi- with that comment. I know a lot of AMG stuff was hand built in that timeframe, so it's entirely possible.
Gorgeous thing indeed I'm pretty sure the old dude I bought my e30 from 10 years ago had a car identical to this. I remember him claiming it to be his "pride and joy".

It's just rare to see something this nice, with window sticker + original phone and sub 200k miles from a non hood. They were cheap for a long time and unfortunately got abused like nothing else. These are still pretty reliable and relatively easy to work on with most parts available. I think they make great classic cars, but I just wouldn't expect their volume to skyrocket.Detroit wrote: ↑Wed Mar 24, 2021 1:58 pmRight...I was only semi- with that comment.
