I have a friend looking into a KTM 690 Duke.

Any pros or cons to him buying that bike?

Someone was telling him the bike has super bad valve issues. You cant go more than 500 miles without needing work. Truth?

Rocker bearing issues are a thing, but appear to be pretty hit or miss. I haven’t done enough research to determine the factors at play. Valve intervals are 6200 miles iirc and pretty easy to do if one is mechanically inclined. The 690 lump has been around in one for or another for quite some time and is otherwise pretty darn reliable.

Ill let him know. Thanks zilch.

6200 miles seems so short. 1) I dont know how to do that. 2) I dont know if/ when my bolt requires that. 3) im at 5500 and I guess I should figure that out.

At first glance, looks like 12k miles for the Bolt.

Planning suspension modz on both bikes in the coming months.

Changing fluid, valves, and shim stack on the 650 forks. Possibly rebuilding the rear shock as well.

KTM will be getting an aftermarket cartridge kit for the forks.

Im on a cruiser page and its great to read the comments between guys talking about handling.

"I lowered the front and rear of my bike. my center of gravity is lower and it rides great. "
"no you reduced your lean angle and ruined any handling you had"
"ive got more riding than any of you im 81"
"thanks grandpa but here is physics"

I saw the trollface and decided not to bite

But yes, all of those things you quoted. Fucking cruise crowd

I used to have these arguments with my uncle (rides a Harley). I've since stopped wasting my time.

I understand that my cruiser will never handle like any other bike. I have accepted that. But I also love to lean that bike as much as possible. I also understand I know nothing about tuning a bike for handling.

I have a miata with plenty of capability when I really want to push my boundaries.

And that’s ok. I found the limitations on my vrod and decided to buy something that better fit my riding desires.

I get :triggered: when someone argues about cruiser handling “improvements” or “capabilities”.

I don't know what you're talking about... My Harley handles the corners like nothing else.

I am certain there are ways to improve handling. But I would bet they are minimal improvements.

I wish I could ride something a bit sportier. But like stated before I hate the look of most upright bikes and my back wont let me lean on a sports bike. I really need to find the happy medium.
