Max I was wrong. I should have remembered this - the M3/M4 come with 18's standard. The 19in model 437s are an option. See this--

Yeah, I have never seen on 18s, 19s are on most, and now almost every single one has the PP with the dubs.Davestr wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2017 2:16 pm Max I was wrong. I should have remembered this - the M3/M4 come with 18's standard. The 19in model 437s are an option. See this--

2018 STI went to 19s to clear the even larger waxables. I even think the 18s are too big for my car in all reality, 17 is really the sweet spot IMO as long as you get tires with a stiff sidewall so you don't get mushy steering.

It makes sense on things like a Hellcat or Panamera Turbo S or whatever where you need YUUUGE brakes to slow down a 5000 lb barge from ridiculous speeds.
Even a 3000 lb can benefit (on track only) from going to 18s over 17s for the 14 vs 13 inch rotor's additional heat capacity. I could see the 3500-4000 lb cars, especially the 400+ hp ones, needing 19s and more rotor mass to handle a track day without swapping to track-only brake pads with additional cooling vents.

Very good point. And the only reason big wheels make sense, IMO.troyguitar wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2017 3:20 pmIt makes sense on things like a Hellcat or Panamera Turbo S or whatever where you need YUUUGE brakes to slow down a 5000 lb barge from ridiculous speeds.

Most well made 18" wheels will clear the new 6 pot STi brakes, FWIW. The caliper shape is very similar to the OEM 4 pots in previous years and the rotor only increased by roughly 10mm, IIRC. It's like 340mm. I cleared 380mm 6 pot Stoptech brakes with my 18" Volks on my M3
M2 with incoming comp pack may get my camel humps moist.

I like the Type R and wish it was out last year when I was looking at cars. A white one would be fun. Sounds like a hell of a car, really.MexicanYarisTK wrote: ↑Wed Aug 23, 2017 4:24 pmThey want to be like the Civic Type R, gotta beat that nordschleife lap time.

Yeah. 20" is stupid. The 18's on the prior Civic Si were too much for that chassis too, where the car rode comfortably overall but had oddly high impact harshness. I'd imagine this would be worse overall.
The 18s on my car are alright though. But the car does ride softer with 17s. Just the winter tires I have on those 17s have super soft sidewalls that make the car jiggle a lot.
