But in my personal experience, the STI is more reliable than my GTI was so far. By this time in GTI ownership I had both door seals replaced, rear washer nozzle repaired, and a hole through a floor mat. STI has required zero. vvv reliable af. :forumbreh:

I was driving more then, but IIRC that all happened before its first oil change, so all by like 6k miles or so. Double what I'm at now, but time wise its the same. If anything this commute now is more brutal on the car than the commute I had when I first got the GTI. That was all highway.

If fled gets a GTI to replace his truck, I think I'm the only one on the board who hasn't owned a Golf/GTI then?Johnny_P wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2017 11:09 amThe originators of this forum got banned for meatspinning admins at Golfmk6.com, and a bunch of us followed because those admins were being such uptight jerkoffs about it.Caspian wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2017 2:11 am Are most of you clowns from VWVortex? Not even sure why people spend the money on VW's when they can buy a Subaru STi or a Mitsubishi Evolution, both of which respond way better to mods and gold their value better. The Golf R is cute but slow in comparison and not as reliable as either the jap cars.
Most of us have had or still have GTIs.

I did not have turbo shit on me, but so far, the lower portion (or w/e it's called, dealer claimed) of my HPFP is replaced, which caused the 5-7 seconds cranking start regardless of temp. Head gasket replaced. My WP took shit once and the plastic reservoir itself was actually cracked, covered it by paint tape, still sticking for over a year now.max225 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2017 11:10 amSince you have a first year burrito how much went wrong with yours ? 2 wp, and intake mani?MexicanYarisTK wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2017 11:01 am I put 2 years ago, purchased the car in October 2014, build date was july 2014. Dat we were the OT crew on golfmk6.com (which is pretty much like civic si forums now ) I had a 2012 GTI 6th gen, then it got totaled back in 2014 due to a private school high school senior at the time was texting and driving, It was when the mk7, new wrx/sti just hit the showroom. I cross-shopped focus st, mk6 Golf R, wrx and the gti, didn't want another mk6 cause I dumped lot of moola on that bitch. Focus ST interior space is a joke, small gas tank, turning radius, did not hear good things about it, except being a fun car. mk6 R's for sale are about 100 miles away, didn't want to risk time. I did stop by the subaru dealer, since the 2015+ WRX's were new, there was only a manual that I can "test drive" which is Limited (top of the line), $33k, red and an STI spoiler, which all are deal breakers, then I had to put a deposit in order to actually test drive and then get it, in other words, if I test drive, I'm definitely getting the car, so ICaspian wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2017 2:11 am Are most of you clowns from VWVortex? Then I stopped by the VW diller, test drove the DSG (dual clutch) and my first time driving that trans as I was coming from a manual gti. Then I pulled the plunge, now it's a love/hate relationship

Lots more reliable if you guys are in the DD thread talking about intake manifolds and water pumps going bad at 80K miles. As long as kids aren't throwing boost controllers on and cranking it up without addressing fuel, and launching the car at every stop light, then those cars/engines/trannies/ohmy are pretty stout.
For that segment of sports car you can't fuq with the 4G63 engine and Evo WRC based platform. That car was conceived for rally racing per homologation rules way back in late 80's early 90's and had been dominating for over a decade mainly against Subaru and Ford (Cosworth Escort), until 2005 or so when it became too costly for both Mitsubishi and Subaru to campaign further. That's when Ford, Renault, and Peugeot had taken over with drivers Sebatian Loeb and Yarimari Latvala, etc. Or whatevertheheck their names are. Subie's are stout as well but I read that they sometimes had ring seating issues, but I never looked into it too much since not a big Subie sackrider. I've had all kinds of turbo Mitsubishi's since 1996. At the end of their run though both cars as long as properly maintained will log 150K miles no problem. Careless kids are what ruins them, like anything else.
Maybe VW have been campaigning the Golf in road course type racing, but I haven't seen that car accomplish as much as the two rally cars have over the last few decades. Even outside of WRC racing and into drag racing and road course the 4G63 and Subaru were as dominant in class racing as Toyota's legendary 2JZ.noshit that was cleaning house street racing and drag racing all through the late 90's and into 2010ish with Sound Performance, Titan Motorsports, Bullish Racing, and a few other dedicated doods.
The golf is a cool car thoe. I see there's a lot of Euro car guys on DFD.

LOL at VW refinement. Eh, they're ok, not as refined as a Lexus or some Toyotas but they ok. Subaru is certainly more refined on their interiors than Mitsu those. Mitsu are quite sparse more focused on driving experience than pampering occupants. Weren't VW's known for popping out of gear?Barnes93cb wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2017 8:00 amBack when we purchased our cars we were looking for not only fun but a certain level of refinement. Which the GTI had for us. They also tune very well, have better fuel economy, and overall insurance costs are lower.Caspian wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2017 2:11 am Are most of you clowns from VWVortex? And depending on the model of the jap cars I dont know that theyre too much more reliable.

Water pump at 70k (timing belt driven), Subaru fixed caliper piston seizures (rebuilt calipers twice), and the infamous 100k mile head gasket. It was at that point that I traded it (with another seized caliper too)
