Let me start off by saying this. This is the car the gti should have been.
That said let's go with the good and the bad. First there is the good.
Seats were excellent and super grippy
Steering wheel is excellent
Shifter is excellent and super easy to use. Super short and direct throws. This is the first car I drove on the wrong side of the street and it never stalled etc etc
Clutch is very easy to use and forgiving
This car has a shift warning sound ?! It basically gives you an audible beep 1/2 second before redline
Engine has a ton of power, a bit of nothing under 2000rpm but then linear and incredibly strong at 3500-5500rpm where the car is just great.
Brakes were giant brembros while not exactly super strong initial bite they do work well and I couldn't get them to overheat during some very spirited Canyon driving
The trunk is yuge. It fit two check in size baggage and a backpack. It seems about 30% bigger than the gayti.
Mechanical grip on this car was the best inexperienced since my C5. It allows for a lot of fun in the turns.
Steering is the best I experienced in a front engine fwd application
:235: s Michelin Pilot tires all around are to be thanked for that.
The RS monitor has gayges for anything you'd possibly want, and the built in navigation system is surprisingly crisp easy to use and had a high res
Let's go on to the not so good.
Visibility is really bad in the rear thanks to the style/design of the hatch. It is quite difficult to park/see out of the car during parking maneuvers thanks to that
There is quite a bit of torque steer that is u predicable thanks to the very powerful motor. The car can go left and right during WOT applications and you have to make sure you're paying 100% attention at all times.
The gayges on the dash are fugly and the rev counter in particular is hard to read. (See attached pic) it was hard to see if you're at 2000 or 2500 rpm. I also don't know wtf the redline is... since it is indicated at both 6000 and 6500
The stereo was blah.
Some ergonomics were stupid ... it takes 5 menus to adjust the treble or bass
Exterior plastics looked low quality and fit and finish was very econo car on the outside
The keyCard is a full retard invention
It does have some road noise, but that's expected in a cheap car
Overall I walked away super impressed with this thing. I can totally see myself owning a car a such as my only DD too bad we don't have em.
It has more than enough power, crazy brakes, really great grip and superb steering and handling. This is the best "hot hatch " I have driven.
I drove this thing for 2 days and 500 miles and various road conditions
Overall 5/7

Maybe some designer thought they could make it as thin as a credit card... but it is pretty much as thick as an iPhone and exactly the same size as a credit card. And you have to put it into this slot in the center console before starting the car ...Calvinball wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2017 2:37 pm What the hell is up with the keycard thing?

Interesting. I've always wondered about these. The interior looks awful, but the rest is especially if it drives that well.

Must be better in person. Looks like the interior from a 2004 Mazda3 in pictures.

This thing handles better than the fakesport and it has quite a bit more mechanical grip. For public roads I never felt like I needed more. Unlike the BMW. It also seems close in terms of power/weight[user not found] wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2017 9:31 amThe NC Miata had a similar key.
Also, shouldn't it be the Megane 235?
However fail wheel drive doe

Just a french car thing. The 2004 megane sedan i borrow has storage space door arm rest right beside the pull door handle. It also has the key card where you put in the slot and start engine, so its nothing new.max225 wrote:

Driving wise, compared to loaner jetta's, it seems to handle/drive better.
It also has more room in the back than my mk6 and mk7, due to a lower trans tunnel.
Adjusting the seat on that car was complicated to begin with.
It's sad we don't get those in Murica.

Renault's been doing that for 15 years. Some french companies like to come up with weird stuff on their cars compared to any other brand.Calvinball wrote:What the hell is up with the keycard thing?
