:notwrong:

I guess I should've said that you can get into a bitch spec F150 for Ridgeline money and most people seem to prefer that.

I am continually :mindblown: at the number of people rolling around in $80K :truk: here... it is insane.
A lot of these trucks are leases, which is how people afford them. But I suspect that in 3 ish years when these all come due, the :dill: s on :truk: will be pretty epic.
This isn't exactly a new phenomenon here :doe: It continues to amaze me how rich everyone in Charlotte seems to be. Like, I feel I make pretty good money and every job I interview for indicates that my current place is actually on the higher end of the pay spectrum... and yet I drive a $20K/$16K Beemah. All of these people are moving into my neighborhood as quickly as a house gets listed, $500K for a 1-1.2K ranch... it is nuts, and then on top of it, many have $100K in cars sitting outside that they seemingly don't even care about. I really don't understand what they do for a living. I guess if my wife had a corp job as well pulling six figures instead of working at a school we would be that rich. I'm not complaining, we have more than we ever need, but it's just wild to observe.

I know these feels well and debate it constantly. I don't feel "rich" at all despite statistically being so. The only thing I can figure is people aren't saving like we are and have much higher debt tolerance. I bet a lot of these people have 70%+ of their income (with minimal or no retirement saving) going strictly to debt obligations like house and cars with everything else floated on CC cards and other such debt tools. The MURICAN way is looking like a baller is #1 priority. I DESERVE IT :disgust:

I just saw the sign get changed out front of a new development near me. It went from "New homes starting in the $500k's" to "New homes starting in the $600k's". And there neighborhoods are popping up everywhere.

It really depends and it’s hard to generalize. 38k is ok for a new vehicle if you have the means. I’d probably use a 30% rule here. Shouldn’t be more than 30% of your gross annual income.

Those rolling in 70-110k f150-350s… that’s interesting. But then again a lot of people make a lot of money. So I shouldn’t judge.

Sounds about right... all for a vinyl box on .2 acres 30-60 minutes outside of Charlotte. These types of homes were $250-350K five years ago here.

True. I try not to judge, if someone wants to dedicate half of their monthly take home to a car payment, go for it, not my problem. If they can genuinely afford it, go for it as well. I just find it fascinating and am curious what people do for jobs to seemingly make so much. Most people around here work for big banks like BofA, Wells, TIAA, etc. I guess those places pay a lot.

A rather well-timed article: https://jalopnik.com/ford-wants-to-suck ... 1847839621

$70k over 84 months is still a big chunk of monthly change, but still less than $70k over 60 or 48 months.

I’m sure they do some :math: there no one is going to give you a decent (sub 10%) 84 month loan if you default on your target credit card and do payday loans.

The shitty part is if you’re truly “poor”, it really sucks for you at the moment. Because all your disposable income is taken up by goods that appreciated the most effectively making you even more poor.

If you’re trying to get a nice used car that is trouble free now it’s nearly impossible… so you’re stuck
With getting hoopties that will nickel and dime you to death with repairs which also turned 50%+ more expensive.

I honestly have no idea how the poor are making it, though labor shortages are everywhere outside of big cities, they must not be hurting that bad somehow.

Scary times indeed. None of this can possibly end well.

I don't think the labor shortages are as easily wrapped up in "people don't want to work" as the talking heads want us to believe. COVID has created this transition of a ton of jobs becoming virtual. I know that all of Comcast's call centers are now operating from home, and with a ton of people working from home, there has been an uptick in the need for operators. So, I imagine that there is a good portion of people who are leaving the in-person service jobs for ones where they can work from home for the same or better pay. Plus, with 700k+ dead, there are a number of unexpected job openings out there.

The 550k of dead were 65+ Long out of the work force. There are macroeconomic factors at play like people “need” a $20 an hr starting wage now and a lot of businesses were unable or unwilling to fund that. There is a shit ton of mobility in the job market with millions who have moved or want more benis or all of the above. It’s obviously a delayed reaction to the millions who became unemployed in 2020.

It’ll take a while to stabilize from that major disruption.

But all signs point to we(anyone who isn’t a 1% er) will all be worse off as expected with a widened gap between the haves and have nots due to government failures.

You have a really interesting perspective, I would say that pretty much all of DFD are very much the 'Haves'. Like, almost everyone here owns a nice home, owns vehicle(s) that are from the past five years, contributes to retirement savings, goes on vacations, buys toys, carries insurance, and has more wealth than we did five years ago.

It really depends on how you want to slice the socioeconomic data. There are vast majorities of have nots and quite a few people that have quite a lot.....

There are swaths of society that refuse to partake in the work force or can't. Hell Florida for example has 10% of the workforce that are felons. That is mind boggling to me... FELONS not people who stole a candy bar.

They obviously will likely never achieve even average incomes and are doomed to shitty lifestyles. That + older people who are sick/sick people etc will all skew the numbers down to pretty low averages. But you will be surprised by how much the average, healthy, educated person can pull in if they apply themselves and are willing to suffer as an office drove.

There are also numerous government jobs that are increadibly highly paid.

Well, mine was just a standard LT Silverado. No off-road pack or anything. The front air damn nearly touched the ground, that thing had excellent aero. Aero is the biggest issue with trucks. Off-road version like your TuRD Bro, ZR2, Rubicon, etc are all terrible. I didn't baby the truck at all, and would do 75-80 on the highway everywhere.

I remember going from my Silverado that routinely did low to mid 20's to my Colorado that couldn't crack 18 no matter what I did. Smaller/lighter truck, but the aero and tires is what matters I think.

My Rubicon JT wouldn't crack 18 either, but Sports and Overlands can get into the 20's without much effort.
Tires do cause a big difference. Which is why I am keeping my bitch specs on. Even though they are somewhere in between Mall tires and K02s. There is a substantial penalty in going to K02, they are about 5-10lbs heavier PER TIRE and they rob about 2-3mpg. without going up in size.
I will say that K02s are no louder at 90 than they are at 60.

No, it clearly wasn't and that's fine for that it is. It's what the Ranger is for and it's how Ford is differentiating between the two.

I'm really curious about the new Ranger. The midsize truck segment is going to be  in 2 years.

All-new:
Tacoma
Colorado/Canyon
Ranger

One of them will be my next vehicle.
I'd totally do a Ranger STX with the FX4 package in Cactus Grey. Not like I haven't built one or anything.

Plus, it's got a real steel front bumper. :notbad:
I really do like that 2.3T. It is exactly what a truck engine needs to be like. All power down low and in the mid range and dead on top. Who the fk revs the crap out of a truck. It feels :wrong: every time I do it…

I also checked out the new frontqueers. The pricing/features are great and they are available everywhere… fully loaded at 45,9k which is downright reasonable compared to the other messes out there.

I wasn't saying that 700k jobs opened up, but a number. Given that, before 2020, reports were coming out on people prolonging retirement and staying in the workforce longer, I think it is safe to assume that the entire 550k figure wasn't comprised entirely of retirees. And I'm not saying the death toll is the cause, but rather it is a piece to the puzzle. You touched on other pieces to that puzzle.

What I am saying, though, is that the rhetoric flying around of "people don't want to work anymore" is false.

Man, it's awesome that you can spec a rear seat delete in the supercab, and vinyl floors. :notbad:

Still, spec'd out the way I'd like it, it's a $36k+ truck. :flaccid:
Sounds like my friend Maxx's '95 Ranger spec. I bet he'd sell that dirty beast for $3K.
