I think 2020 is the date for Mk8 which means 2021 for 'murica. Rumors of light hybrid powertrain too which is a from me.
The third gen EA888's really seem to be much better than the second gen in the Mk6.

Oh yeah carbon buildup. That's the other thing. My commute is 3 miles of stop signs. I put under 4k/year on my car. Aintgottaworryboutdah on my STI with it's poverty port injection and big dick 2.5L gutless motor.
I love this engine. So much character.
If you lease it shouldn't be a problem then. I needed a carbon clean on my Mk6 at 55k with a 12 mile round trip commute. New EA888's seem to go longer in between cleanings.
GTI leases have never been "great" i think the lowest was around $300 with no/little money down on a poverty spec, options kill leasability. This is relatively shitty as it is above the 1% of MSRP per month rule of a "good lease"
Yeah I kinda that. Do Audis lease better? Honestly an A4 lease would be pretty rad.
A3 maybe ... a4 you’re likely looking at 4K down with $399 plus tax .... which isn’t great they are epically depreciating vehicles also

Gag
You gotta understand it is a $40k+ vehicle... There is no free lunch. It is nearly twice as expensive as a GTI. The "correct" lease payment is around ~$750 all in. For the first 3 years at 12k miles a year.

Leases have been retardedly cheap on some cars for many years now, I still don't understand how many of these companies make any money.

For a while residuals were really high because the used values were quite high as well, but with the customer behavior shifting away from sedans Manufacturers were not able to predict that shift back in 14-16 when assessing their residuals or chose to "inflate" them to take the financial hit at lease turn in 24-36 months from lease initiations.
Also, when I was at the dealership last night they had an Emerald gray 2 door hardtop JCW with the auto. It’s a good looking car.
$44k.
It’s fucking madness.
One of the sales monkeys asked why I didn’t replace it with another mini... I told him straight up they’re just not competitive - the renegade has more equipment than a $40+k countryman and leases for peanuts.
He actually showed me their internal comparison charts. They list the Q3/Q5, F Pace, CLA, X1/X3 and similar cars as competition.
Their problem is their customer base doesn’t know that’s their competition.

Mini competitors:
Renegade
Velobster
Kia Soul
Nissan Joke
Fiat 500
F pace... nobody is cross shopping a Mini and an F pace.

Insanity. Talk about some price creep.
Everything is expensive now. Especially if you want a real engine not these motors.

That’s the thing... they’re not competing with Kia, Hyundai, Nissan, fiat, Toyota.
Is a late R56 S a good buy?
I know the earlier N14 Prince engine became notorious for timing chains& carbon build up but N18s are supposed to be better.
I’ve always been a fan of Minis almost got a new F56 S instead of my Rolf but just didn’t find it particularly fun. I guess it was mostly down to the engine and perhaps the fact that the one I drove didn’t have drive modes (extra here) so no pops & bangs in Sport were had.
Personally I prefer the R56 over the F56 anyway, but are they any good?

My 2013 was fun, but it had a clutch howling issue that the diller kept throwing clutches at. Stay the hell away from the early R56s, avoid that shit like the plague.
Mine was going to be out of CPO warranty and the munchkin was here, so I got my
My R56 was awesome doe, comfortable, roomy inside, and a blast in the twisties.
I thought the new engine was found in 2010+ or are there other major differences that make the 2012+ the better option?
How’s the JCW? I don’t think they ever made the switch to the N18?
Maybe I shouldn’t rule out the F56 just yet as I’ll keep the JB4 from my B48.

[user not found] had 2 absolutely pristine Mini's. Check his garage thread.

2011 in the US got the N18 with dual vanos, better components, and better reliability. The 2007-2010 cars truly are a total crapshoot, and are mostly crap.
Also of note: The only year the JCW got the N18 was 2013.
Merci very much.
I think I’ll have to bore everyone with a “What car should I buy” thread shortly but I’m heavily leaning towards a Fiesta ST, R56 S, 500 Abarth or the like.
