What about a setup where I move the front calipers to the rear on C6 Z51 rotors? Most of the brake bias is to the front, so with the beefy front calipers, that might be all I need. Would save me $1,000 on Wilwood rear calipers that are worth it in the first place.
Might be worth just a try to see?

I'd try it out. It won't cost you anything to see if the bias is how you like it.Detroit wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2018 11:58 am What about a setup where I move the front calipers to the rear on C6 Z51 rotors? I did nearly the same thing with my 968 and the term "hand of god" was quite apt then.

Looks like there's an issue with running the rear rotor with the front caliper because the rear rotor is thinner than the front. Could use the front rotor on the rear, but buh-bye parking brake...which I'd like to keep.Apex wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2018 12:25 pmI'd try it out. Ahhh, got it. Pistons pop out of the caliper with the rear rotor?

Pads fall out, actually. Many people modify the caliper bracket, but it's worth it.
I may just leave the rear brakes as-is.

How do these compare costwise with C6Z/GS brakes?

The calipers?
The calipers new are $1,200. C6Z/GS brakes seems to be about half that if you buy new. The C6Z/GS brakes have the lame padlets and questionable history of performance on the track.
I scored the calipers for $650, so I figured it was worth a shot.

FWIW, I just got the front calipers, ss lines, and street pads...they don't include the rotors.
But still, to do the Z06 kit, you could save some money by piecing it together with stock rotors (which are good enough for me).

I've never had calipers worthy of waxing.

In a couple of weekends I intend to fire up the quickjack and CQuartz the underpowered mulletbarge. I also ordered a new splitter to replace the old one that got tore up on curbs. AT THAT TIME I WILL CQUARTZ my calipers, for no other reason that forum yucks.

Roll hard, breh.
I don't think you can wax nickel plating, doe.

I guess I'm confused. I've had many cars with fixed calipers ( included), but none have been painted pretty. They've all been unfinished cast or dark coating of some sort.
I thought "waxable" calipers were highly finished?

Also...I kind of get ceramic coating. If it helps brake dust wash off easier, then it's probably a worthwhile endeavor.
But to apply wax on calipers just for blang?

I'd like to hear about how wax remains "stable" at 300F or whatever temperature the calipers get to. I seriously don't understand this or "chroming" the underside of a vehicle unless it is a show car.

Ceramic coating should be stable at high temps, but I don't see how wax would be.

Stock rear calipers with the C6Z51 rotors and brackets are fine with good pads. No need to screw with different calipers back there.Detroit wrote:What about a setup where I move the front calipers to the rear on C6 Z51 rotors?
