Neat little thing! I like it a lot. I haven't seen that brand on the roads around here for 5 yrs at least. Not sure if there's access to parts?Irish wrote:I actually really like this for him...if it werent for the miles......

Then was the GTI in 2012 - bought for $23k, traded for $19k 18 months later.
Then the GP - bought for $30k - traded for $25k 18 months later.
Then the Danger - bought for $4500 sold for $4800 6 months later (did dump a lot of time into fixing shit, not too much money).
The R53 I still have - bought for $5k.
The Bro Forks 1 was after that, bought for $17k, traded for $16k.
That leaves the Bro Forks 2, which I bought for $30k, and is still worth $25k on trade 16 months later.
So... I've blown about $20k on depreciation. Eh. It's been a lot more fun than hating life in a clunking Ford Focus for the last 6 years. I'd have never become actively involved on Mk6, wouldn't have been sensationalized, and nobody would've ever been banned, and thus...DFD wouldn't have ever existed.

my penny senses are tingling.... the Bro Forks was 30k after tax and all? GTI for 23k? After tax? I think you're missing some stuff. Obviously nothing grotesque like life sapping retardation in there. But still... money is money bruh.[user not found] wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2017 3:23 pmThe first car after college, the 2012 Focus that I bought in 2011, that was the biggest hit. LA is the same way[user not found] wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2017 4:56 pmIn PA - you get a trade in tax credit. So tax spent is mostly recovered unless you have a large delta between trade value and new vehicle sale price.max225 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 22, 2017 4:44 pm

I believe in Cali you get none of that - so the amount of blown on sploitations can quickly escalate.

How does trade-in credit work with a leased vehicle? Say I wanted to buy a ZR2...could I "trade in" the 1SMP to get the sales tax credit?

Damn. Just trying to game the system. I figured I could "trade in" the lease (rather than give it back) and then the tax is that trade-in value - the new truck sale price (that's how it is in MI).

I suppose that could work somehow but you'd have to make sure your residual is lower to or equal to what they give you. And I have a feeling it is not ... considering the $180 a month payment

Well, in Michigan, you only pay sales tax on the difference between the trade in vehicle and the new.[user not found] wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2017 4:31 pmThe only way this would work is to have them agree on a trade value that's more than the lease buyout, and then buy out the lease so you can trade it just to get a tax credit for the tax you've just paid by buying out the lease.
That's just
So, if I want to buy a ZR2 for $38k, and my truck can be traded in for $28k (that's the residual, and I know ) then I'd only be paying sales tax on $10k ($600) vs $38k (2,280). That's saving $1,680.
Just wondering if it's a plausible hypothetical. I know I probably wouldn't get $28k on trade for the truck, so it makes it all a bit of a moot point.
