Jesus, they're just now getting approval? I thought they started construction like 2 or 3 years ago. :mindblown:

I've been keeping tabs on it, rooftop needs another 30% price drop or increase in efficiency to make it worth it this far north.
I'm gonna talk to Ben about what he did with their first house. They didn't really use it for power, it was for water heating.

I talked to a couple here that has solar panels on the house.

And incandescent bulbs everywhere.

I let them live in ignorance and bliss.

Yeah his system was pretty sweet. The tax credit he got made it way worth it and they didn't need a huge array.
New house is baseboard heat too, that can be tied in as well if I remember how his was setup correctly.

Dat Nuclear icon on the thread.
Well played.

Nuke power is our only viable existing technology for 'green' energy.
Solar and wind can halp, but they aren't the end all be all.

Hot water baseboard? Nice.
Yep, currently heated by a gas furnace.

If I had any rooftop real estate I'd install them.

Yea I have a pretty steeply pitched roof and am surrounded on the south (sunny) side by tall mature oaks and maples so I get minimal sun where I'd need it to be to make panels worth it. :(

Yet, it's pretty much being abandoned.

:disappoint:

Watched new NOVA (PBS) episode on nuke power last night. 5/7 very informative.

Summary:
Fukushima is a complete shit show and will continue to be for a very long time
Regulations hamper new reactor design/tech
Sodium cooled reactors seem like a viable option vs. water cooled.
Millennial nuke engineers are a thing :derp:
As the only published author in a well-known motorcycle publication in the room...

Name of show?

Sodium cooled reactors are not terrible if we can use the braton cycle. Otherwise... you need another heat transfer fluid besides water. Sodium + water = bad day

What are they going to replace these with?
