Oh nice, prolly good thing i ask these questions. Today my 6 yr old asked me about , and i gave him the run down on adoption. He suggests that maybe he will be responsible enough to adopt one when he is 9 or 10.

We had a Guinea pig as kids and she was pretty social with us. But my younger bro was probably 9 by then. 6

For a kid, I think a well mannered calm dog is best. Cats are alright but they get prissy and don't want to be picked up and will react with scratching or whatever.

Some rabbits do well on a leash and can be walked around the neighborhood. Mine hated his leash so we didn't make him try it after the first time.

Good for your kid to recognize that he's not yet responsible enough to adopt a . FWIW, my buddy adopts his rabbits from a shelter, too.

Guinea pigs, which are closely related to rabbits, by the way, might make a better pet for young kids as they're more easily handled, picked up, etc. But they are nocturnal so they'll be awake at night and make funny little grunting noises which may keep some awake.

Thanks! He's a good kid and very conscious of the world around him. It makes parenthood rewarding.
