Finally got sober enough to finish our basement. I framed and drywalled and mudded the bedroom. Framed the rest out, built a landing and a bench/tv stand to keep access to our water main open. Hired someone to hang and mud the rest. Hired out the egress window install too.

It was drip tile ceiling and wood paneling before, now it's a great space for the kids and spare bedroom for my mom when she visits.

Going to buy a OLED TV and eventually add one of the new Xboxes.

Painting the ceiling and pipes white would look pretty good too i think.

That's our laundry room. Provides a more bright, though sterile environment. Which depending on what's going down there is either good or bad.

I've also seen it done in bar environments (both black and white) and I really like the results. I'm also pretty into sterile/white walls etc. Looks industrial and brings visual appeal with the shapes popping out subtly.

I like my sterile basement - did white shelves, white appliances, white walls. I just want to level out the floor and do a grey epoxy coat.

Can confirm. We yanked down a drop ceiling in our basement and just sprayed everything black. Looks "finished" enough and doesn't make the basement feel too closed in. Our house is old, so the basement isn't that deep. Need all the headroom we can get.

What did you do about the decades of dust, grime, and spider webs that were undoubtedly up there though? Did you attempt any cleaning before painting?

Plans?

Leave it empty and open. I have no intent to finish it or close it off, or pack it full of shit like my dad. I'm working on cleaning it up slowly, lots of cobwebs, dust, dirt, and debris. I've got an entire back crawlspace full of creepy crawlies and junk that I've yet to clean out.

I do want to fix the corner workbench, too, and give myself a small basement workspace.

It should prove to be fairly dry - basement was waterproofed and there's 2 sump pumps, and I'm at the top of a hill. Only thing I really need to do is fix some of the grading surrounding the house so that the water drains away from the foundation.

Well, managed a win. Went to Lowe's to get some electrical stuff I needed, and we walked down the tile isle. She found a porcelain hexagon tile that she LOVES...and it's on sale right now for $7/sq ft.

Bought one sheet so she could see it at home, we both like it so I'm going to buy the rest tomorrow. Amazing that worked out.

Still gotta do open shelving, doe...but again I'll keep it cheap. She also wants a wood wall on the other side of the kitchen in the breakfast nook...I'll tackle that once the rest is done...which is hopefully after she lost interest in the idea.
