I loved that generation Passat. Was a really nice car, I too got one as a loaner when I had my MK6 in for clutch replacement. Was a great car.

Yep. Size was Goldilocks. Not too big, not too small. Was quite lively with the 1.8T. Felt really solid, handled good, grounded to the ground ( ), etc. Available as a wagon, too. Fucking Muricanization ruined a great car.

Couldn't you get one with the 2.0T? I always thought a Wagon 2.0T would be a neat, comfortable, and entertaining car.

As always I just remembered that I did the exact same mirror mod. The mk7 mirror tapers even more towards the end and is even smaller.

I've actually never driven an MK7.

They also hand washed it. It was SO filthy before and looks again.

The 16 valves were made from 1986.5 (my year) through 1988 iirc. So your friend's could be an 88. There were a (very) few changes from the 86.5 to 87, most notably a change from a 160 mph speedo to a 140 (or maybe it was from 140 to 120?), and thinner door locks buttons. I don't know of any changes from 87 to 88.
