I loved that generation Passat. Was a really nice car, I too got one as a loaner when I had my MK6 in for clutch replacement. Was a great car.
Yep. Size was Goldilocks. Not too big, not too small. Was quite lively with the 1.8T. Felt really solid, handled good, grounded to the ground ( :hue: ), etc. Available as a wagon, too. Fucking Muricanization ruined a great car.
Couldn't you get one with the 2.0T? I always thought a :manuel: Wagon 2.0T would be a neat, comfortable, and entertaining car.

Oh, dunno. Maybe in the later years? I got my loaner around 2002, when the 1.8T was VW's hottest 4 pot. Murican Passat deputed around 2011 or 2012, iirc.

Heard from my SA about a half hour ago:
Good afternoon WAP. We are finishing up on the repairs. We have about an hour left. I will let you know as soon as we are all set.
At least I didn't have to chase him down for an update this time.

Got another text. They test drove it and "we are good to go". Gonna pick it up after work. Gives me an excuse to leave early. :evilplan:

As always :dock: I just remembered that I did the exact same mirror mod. The mk7 mirror tapers even more towards the end and is even smaller.
I've actually never driven an MK7. :doomed: :ban:
Think stage one :mk6: with more screens. That's it.

Car is home. Got 2 new crash sensors and a new drivers mirror because the fault for the blind spot and rear traffic monitors go through a relay in the drivers mirror and it failed, which caused my intermittent warning light. Additionally, they found, and fixed, a leaky windshield washer bottle.

They also hand washed it. It was SO filthy before and looks :tits: again. :notbad:

Thanks. Fingers are crossed that it'll be smooth sailing for a number of years now. Yes, they're a 5/7 svs dept and they've taken good care of me since 1999.

:nope:

When all of these cars are 10+ years old and no one can afford or care to replace the broken electronic safety shit, we’re back at square 1 with half of the driving population.

My friend is having his Scirocco towed to a shop so he can finally drive it again. IIRC when I was there it sounded like it had some rod knock.

'88 maybe? Does that look like it might be right?

No idea where he's taking it but it's about time it's been maybe a year since it drove anywhere.

:nice:
The 16 valves were made from 1986.5 (my year) through 1988 iirc. So your friend's could be an 88. There were a (very) few changes from the 86.5 to 87, most notably a change from a 160 mph speedo to a 140 (or maybe it was from 140 to 120?), and thinner door locks buttons. I don't know of any changes from 87 to 88.

Damn, that was a fun little car. :megusta:
