I wish they still made the RX8. I'm hoping for a great comeback of Japanese sports cars really soon. FRZ is here, Supra is coming, and hoping it gets followed up with a new RX, Z, and maybe S2k type thing. I would love to own a Jap sports car.

I'm worried that I won't like anything newer than this, with all of the emissions and pedestrian crash standards and OMG TORQUE focus on new cars I think that most stuff will suck.

You're not going to see motors that rev to the moon again, that's almost guaranteed. So yeah you'll lose that aspect.troyguitar wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2018 3:39 pmI'm worried that I won't like anything newer than this, with all of the emissions and pedestrian crash standards and OMG TORQUE focus on new cars I think that most stuff will suck.Johnny_P wrote:

The upcoming GT4 is likely to be the last new car ever sold that I might really want, but will cost as much as my house so I'll never see one. RX8 might be the best thing that I can ever afford to drive.Johnny_P wrote:You're not going to see motors that rev to the moon again, that's almost guaranteed. Revs are expensive.

One-off revvy sports car motors are expensive to develop and if you're only using it in one vehicle the development costs end up astronomical on a per-unit basis. Which is why things like the Miata have a commuter car engine.

They either break more often, or are full of unobtanium, or both.

Put some more miles on the car today in moderate rain, I'm really impressed with the RE71R tarz and the car in general. These bridgestones might not be faster in a dry autox than the Rival-S, but they are actually good tires for real world street use. They feel great with no stupid tramlining or anything. The car itself feels super high-strung (in a good way) as long as you keep the revs up, which is easy to do since the gearing is short and the engine runs so smoothly.
Dunno if I already mentioned this, but the pedal positioning/spacing in this car is better than I have seen in any street car by far. The brake pedal is dead center, aligned with the center of the steering wheel and seat, with enough width and space between it and the clutch/throttle that you can easily brake with your left or right foot without thinking about it. I know that people are about left foot braking, but IMO it is a significant advantage in any corner where you need to brake but not downshift - which is every corner in autox. I grew up left foot braking in karts and do it as often as possible in the PC sim-racing, so it's a fantastic hidden feature of the car.
It's still not fast and is horrific on fuel and forward visibility kind of sucks with the huge A-pillars, but it's quick and fun and cheap. 4/7 car overall, 5/7 when considering price.
