You'll find out when you bring it home. Any word on when it's ready for pickup?Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2017 11:12 amJust going to put it in the hatch for now. It should fit with the front wheel off. Maybe I'll get a roof rack but that probably won't be till next spring.Apex wrote:Gberg, do you have a bike hauling system figured out?

I'm going to call them later today. Order placed on Saturday and they said it only takes a few days shipping. It should be there and assembled today.Apex wrote:You'll find out when you bring it home. Any word on when it's ready for pickup?

Fuck and you're having a hellofa day too.
You can either go cheap or OEM. Oem will cost 2-3x more than the cheap glass. I couldn't tell the difference with my $280 windshield.
Right before this happened I said to myself damn, I'm not taking this way home anymore. BAM. Rock chip.max225 wrote:Fuck and you're having a hellofa day too.

Repairing it usually doesn't work right? It just slows the eventual expansion? My brother used Safelite on his MkV a few years back and it's been fine. He used their glass and not oem. I never really examined it though.

That repair price is fucking ridiculous. Have you looked at your glass coverage on your policy. A lot of them cover repair for free with zero deductible?
That's what I was just about to do. Geico says glass is part of the comprehensive which I have a $500 deductible. Going to call them now for more details.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2017 7:35 pmThat repair price is fucking ridiculous. Have you looked at your glass coverage on your policy. Right. I have USAA they have zero deductible repair......which makes sense for them....two of my winshields are HUD so I assume $1500ish.Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2017 7:49 pmThat's what I was just about to do. Just got off the phone with them. It is zero deductible repair and they do use Safelite. I could have picked someone else but I don't know any glass repair places as I've never had one cracked. Safelite should be fine for a repair though. I'll be getting it fixed Thursday.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2017 8:01 pmRight. Holy shit. The kit to repair it yourself is like $20 from any auto parts store. Follow the instructions perfectly, and it'll turn out fine. JUST DO NOT WAIT because it WILL spread.
I've probably fixed 10 chips just like that in my life with fantastic results every time.

Learned my lesson with that! comp deductible before my deer incident.[user not found] wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2017 9:53 pm Fuckin' A - you people and your high comprehensive deductibles.
Drop it to $100 bucks and profit. Deer, PA roads, etc. It's not worth it to rock a high comp deductible, it's not expensive either.

My neighbor worked for one of those glass repair tents at gas stations etc and they used to do a two step fix... 1.) Use a tiny application specific drill bit to stop the crack by drilling at its end points and he would do every crack line (no pun intended), 2.) Some clear polymer filler for the existing damage. I'm sure that I've seen these guise around recently so the option is still there.Detroit wrote:Holy shit. The kit to repair it yourself is like $20 from any auto parts store. Funny thing, I heard a loud smack on my windshield yesterday and saw what looked like white patches where the glass took a rock. Luckily I was going pretty slowly because of traffic conditions or this would be me too!
